I have noticed that when my computer is at idle and my GPU clock speeds are low the second that I pull up the Oculus store my GPU ramps all the way up to the maximum clock speed and stays pegged until I close out of the app. Is there a reason why it's consuming all that clock speed for nothing?
you put the rift on and look in the lounge yes? Well it's rendering that image... so the GPU has to do some work... whether u have the rift on or not is another matter 🙂
That's one of the most frustrating windows problems ever that no one has ever given a answer to why it ocures. Just posted a video on skybox doing that to me. It is even more frustrating when some windows function is causing your cpu to freak out, sometimes nothing will even show as using cpu but your cpu will still be maxed out.
I don't see the problem I guess? You have a program running in the background/foreground that requires cycles that in turn means it'll use cpu. Just because you have the headset off your head doesn't mean the software should end. Other things might be going on behind what is going on the surface. So to me - that would be normal.
I see why you think this and maybe going forward they should have an option to lower the priority of the application? But speaking as a random programmer just because you pull it off your head doesn't mean I should accept no data from your client. I still need to spend updated data or else I would be better just just forcing you to reload the whole app really. What if it was flux and your headset sent the wrong data? How sure can I be that flux shouldn't just stop the application at random? Really it be no different than turning off your monitor. Your PC doesn't just stop functioning in windows because you turn off your monitor.
As for the GPU problem - it kind of sounds like a driver issue. Maybe not a preset setup for it not to lower usage down until really needing it. It's a common problem in graphical software and GPU drivers to be a bit confused on what to do at times. Trust me Nivida and AMD mess things up all the time with new releases.
