Oculus Will Not Have A Booth At E3 2017

The decision to avoid an E3 booth this year makes more sense for the Oculus of 2017, which has gone through some dramatic changes since last year’s event took place. Oculus co-founder Palmer Luckey was a huge presence at 2016’s Oculus E3 booth. This year, however, he has departed the company under ambiguous circumstances.

Facebook just wrapped up a conference that made global headlines surrounding Oculus breakthroughs with VR and AR, with AR advanvements specific to Facebook technology. At this stage in the game, the people who have booths are the people who need booths.

I'm very disappointed oculus is not having a booth. I understand there will still be developers showing oculus games. E3 gets publicity and it's good for gaming and vr especially. I think it was a bad decision.

They'll probably have their own separate event I expect.

Oculus or not i think E3 will be interesting for VR/AR. I think MS may be unveiling scorpio xb1 and i am hoping for more vr/ar stuff from them.
Why lock yourselves to 1 brand to be invested in...... I am sure Oculus will have a big presence at the correct places when they have a new hmd to offer.... Until then i just want news of ANY VR
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR 🙂

I spent a few hours getting back up to speed on all things VR over at upload.  I hadn't realized that Palmer Luckey and Brendan Irbe were officially gone and that Oculus was now a Facebook project, rather than its own independent division or company.  In that vein it's not surprising that FB decided against an Oculus branded booth at E3.

It's funny, but seeing the Oculus ring with the blue Facebook logo in the middle finally released me from brand loyalty.  Without realizing it, I had harboured some loyalty to Oculus as the first company that brought me into VR.  Now that I see Facebook has taken full control of the division, I no longer feel like I owe any sort of loyalty to the brand.  I don't hate Facebook, but I now see their product as simply one of many similar products.

I stand by my decision to buy a Rift over Vive based on specs and performance.  However, depending on who you ask it's simply how I rationalized an emotional subconcious decision.  With this latest revelation, I know that my next purchase will be unburdened by any sense of obligation on my part.

What a surprise!

I was writing "Oculus stopped caring about core gaming VR and PC VR, completely" like 1.5 year ago. Or 2 years ago?

Why would social and casual VR company, Oculus, attend e3 which is mostly about core gaming?
To promote multi-platform games? To look awkward after being asked about upcoming AAA games or new, finally meeting minimum reasonable requirements Rift version?

Oculus will be back into PC VR and gaming when:
- crap PCs are capable
- HMDs dropped to 200$, so masses can buy them.

Core gamers? They don't exist in Facebook's minds. Simple as that. Call me an Oculus hater again for stating the obvious. "Just wait, it's just a prototype". "Just wait, it's just the start". "Just wait for Touch release". "It will be the year of VR", "AAA games take time, just wait".
Well...
Why would Oculus announce big games if it can announce 60€ USB cable available in their store. Cause you know. Core gamers are those 200 people around the whole world, who buy very expensive hardware, right?
Not an Oculus hater, but not a fan anymore. Still lots of respect for the team-Carmack, Abrash. Oculus is driven by big corporation principles now. That brings painful effects already, more to come in the future. This is not the Oculus I once cheered for.
