Oculus announces new prototype: Crescent Bay

Brendan Iribe has announced a new prototype which is "A large leap from DK2".

Among the new features are:

- 360 degree tracking with rear facing LEDs
- High-quality Integrated audio
- Real Space 3D Audio Specialisation
- Expanded positional tracking volume
- Dramatically improved weight and ergonomics
- Improved optics:
? Higher Refresh Rate
? Higher resolution
? Higher FOV

He has announced that they are now getting "closer to a consumer rift".

Does this mean a new DK3 before CV1?

That's what I was thinking.. lol. I just got my DK2 a couple weeks ago, and "Yup, here's DK3.. lol". No idea if they're actually going to release this as DK3 or if they're going straight to CV1, have to wait and see.

DK2 went on sale 2 months after Crystal Cove was revealed.
So DK3 due to go on sale in november? 😄

According to the press conference, the only Crescent Bay Rifts that exist are hand-made prototypes from Oculus headquarters. IF they decide to release a DK3, they are far away from mass-production. That said, I don't think they will. If they did, it would most certainly mean a late-2016 CV1 at the earliest.

Well this explains why there has been so little work on the DK2 drivers, the Oculus devs have probably been busy getting the Crescent Bay prototypes working well.

I'm guessing it's using the note 4 display.

Don't think of it that way. It's more like the audience in a sports game. People shout things constantly and nobody considers it disgusting.
