Oculus got it right

I have to say, up until now from when I got my Oculus at the end of April, I have been underwhelmed. I mean at first I already had the DK2, so it was more of the same, and I was dissapointed by a lot of old software and demos not working, with limited content.

As time passed I eventually got it working with Assetto Corsa, and a few other titles, I bought a few games, but not much wowed me.

I can honestly say, that now with touch, and the quality of the controllers it feels like a complete VR system. True the next thing will be walking around in large spaces and on treadmills! But for now, even games with the teleport function are so much fun. I bought DamageCore, and only played a few rounds, the teleporting and just looking to shoot became tedious fast. But now with such great hand controllers, it has bought everything together.

I think the overall quality, solidness, ergonomics and performance of the controllers are well worth the price, and I mean, £70 of that price is for the sensor. A normal console controller costs £60 when released each, so these are well within a reasonable price for what they are.

Anyhow, I am finally a happy customer, touch has now bought the system up to what it should be, and all I can say is long live Oculus VR!

Are you saying damaged core can be used with hand controllers or you just saying games are better with Touch.  I thought te same with damaged core. ...was pretty underwhelmed.

im not sure i agree, I think the controllers are good but the tracking is a let down. I also think the games are boring after only a day I can't say any of them are pulling me back in apart from some of the more creative ones. I think its ironic that some of these games are based on 19 century fairground attractions as that seems to be the level of game in VR these days. Stand & shoot at things, puch things, throw things.

What games have you tried? Specifically.

You're the first person I've seen complaining about the tracking. What issues are you having..?

i also feel the same way and am pleasantly surprised at how good it is. true there is some latency on the finger and hand tracking but not so much that i notice it unless looking for it. wish i didnt have to go to bed.

I have to agree. I had fun with the Oculus Rift for a bit when I first got it in the summer, but got bored with it and the games pretty fast.

My Touch order showed up today and I got it all up and running right away. It's the first time I touched the Rift in about two months, and I have to say I am blown away. Having the Touch is a game changer for the Rift and I am very happy that I purchased it.

There is a real sense of being in VR now. Room scale is what it was lacking for me, I see what all the HTC people were talking about.

Time to have some fun.

Ripcoil, Pirate Space Trainer, The Unspoken, VR Sports Challenge, Bullet Train, Arizona Sunrise, Dead & Buried, The Climb, plus whatever else you get for free.

I am loving it nrosko, I thought the tracking was fantastic and super smooth?

I have had an issue with a button sadly, but the whole teleport thing is for motion sickness. I got tired of teleporting and looking at things, but now being able to use my hands in such a way makes everything 200% better.

Re DamageCore, no I was saying it was boring and I didn't like it, if only it does get updated with touch, then it may be good.

I think its very easy to obstruct the the touch controllers from the sensors, for example pulling the string of a bow is obstructed by your body if turned 90 degrees to the right or left. The 180 degree tracking is something they got wrong imo. Of course there is an experimental 360 setup but why after all this time is it experimental, have they not had time to get it working & refine it? Or is it because the cameras are not up to it.
