Oculus is losing the race

The race to consumer VR is on and it seems many have joined the race.

http://www.engadget.com/2014/10/11/carl-zeiss-vr-one-is-a-99-answer-to-the-samsung-gear-vr/

There are many other examples. The race is hot!

Still the consumer version of Oculus Rift is nowhere in sight, after more than 2 years in development. We're all waiting for that killer VR experience on the PC, but Oculus seems to be spending a lot of effort on R&D.

Sure they might release the best VR headset that will be available to the consumer, but it will cost $400 while some cheap crap can be picked up for under $100. We all know the history of that sort of competition, the cheap crap wins every time.

In the end Oculus will have maybe 10% market share in VR devices. They will not be able to compete with a technology superior device that costs $400 vs. a $100 cheap clone for China that works just well enough.

In the beginning people are mostly curious about VR and not maybe ready to spend $400 for a HMD, but maybe $100 just to try out a cheap one.

3 years from now we'll look In retrospect and figure out what happened, but the answer is clear, Oculus waited too long to release a consumer VR headset and allowed everyone to play catch up and maybe beat them to the punch.

Time is running out, they have maybe less than 6 months to release a HMD.

You know, I ended up talking a lot of things here, because I always say what I think. And I am often misinterpreted. Okay., And am also a bit aggressive ... LOL. But I love OculusRift.

I like more than well colored games because disguise the "screen door effect". One of my favorite games is FairyForest because it is relaxing and has very good colors. Only miss a little more animation in games. And would like to see games with animated characters.

Interestingly, OculusRift taught me to give more value to real things. Now I notice more things I did not notice before. Virtual experiments can be really wonderful and incredible, but nothing compares to real life. Certainly, that one day will be difficult to distinguish real life from virtual life, but that day may still be far away ... I do not know if this will be good, or whether it will be bad ... probably be both...

But nothing can be worse than that

so is this officially a click bait thread?

Not a click-bait, just trying to keep all eyes open on what the competition is doing. The competition isn't waiting for the perfect solution, they want to get something out there and sell $$$ ...

Archos VR headset makes any phone virtual reality before your very eyes
Virtual reality doesn't have to be unrealistically priced with the Archos headset that works with most smartphones.

There are lots of these kind of headsets coming to the consumer, $20-$60 headsets that re-purpose your existing smartphone into a VR device. Pretty clever, probably a bad VR experience, but a lot of people will be lured into that because maybe it'll be good enough "intro device".

The only thing we need at the moment is this: oculus team.. watch out !

On a related note, here is incontrovertible proof that no matter how good something is, there is always always room for improvement:

Life like Ghostbusters game made for VR and done properly along with Alien, HL3, ED, Star Citizen, Assetto Corsa, Outlast 2, Minecraft VR (as only really impressive in VR) and redone Skyrim VR Edition or new Elder Scrolls game, Fallout 4 (I know parent company bad, but Skyrim is gorgeous in VR! Plus Fallout would look great too!), and of course Grand Theft Auto VR would be Oculus' killer release game lineup!

With lineup like that Oculus would sell millions and PC gaming systems would out sell consoles taking top spot again as the ultimate gaming platform!

Any other VR solution that came out before Oculus would be forgotten in the silicone of time...
Fire and brimstone coming down from the sky! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes! The dead rising from the grave! Facebook buying the Oculus Rift! Human sacrifice! Dogs and cats, living together! Mass hysteria!

I think you nailed it Darcanis. After spending today racing in Asseto Corsa, I think VR, properly done, will blow the consoles out of the water.
But... but... but... I just NEED to know about the Baba! The Baba has me hypmotized!

Way better than this version:
