Oculus market place needs work

Weird how Oculus is owned by the biggest social web based solution in the world yet has one of the worst web market place of any online game distro.  I love the hardware, but Steam just has the perfect marketplace.  Steam does not make users review games\software by running the client application that limits to interaction at home.  Each game, each item has its own social network of discussion boards, user art, and sometimes customizations work bench for mods.  I commend Oculus for playing nice with Steam, but when are they actually going to start seriously competing with them?

To be fair to Oculus Valve have had Steam running since 2003 so they've had 15 years worth of work done to it. I personally think that Oculus should be given a fair bit of credit for getting together what they have done so far in just 2 years. Even having the online infrastructure ready on day one of the Rift launching is quite an achievement.

Oculus Home and the Oculus Store will get there, it's just going to take a bit of time.

I see both sides of your argument, while yes it is true that they did not fall flat on their face on day one.  However the software developer in me kind of says they really set themselves up for mediocracy.  They should have seen what the market leader is doing with software deployment services and employed much of the same features possibly with improvements.  It is much easier to plan and develop for robust architecture than it is to try and bandaid existing functionality that seems insufficient.  I hope they succeed I really do, but I much more prefer the steam market experience over oculus.
