Oculus, please include a display adaptor in the box!

I bought my Oculus 2 weeks ago and I still haven't been able to get it working.
Before I bought it, I did a little scanning of the internet and saw that people were successfully using the same graphics card as me.
I ran the Oculus software which told me my system would run VR, I ran the Steam software that said I could run VR.
After looking at the specs of the device I knew I needed an adaptor for the R9 295x2. No problem, I'll get one, it all came and didn't work.
I've now tried 3 adaptors and they either don't work at all and pick up HDMI and give me a black screen.

Oculus' own site says the following
"
  • If you’re already using your HDMI port for your display, or your graphics card doesn’t have a HDMI port, try the following options:
Display OptionsRift Options
HDMI to mini-HDMI adapterHDMI to mini-HDMI adapter
DisplayPortDisplayPort adapter
DisplayPort adapterHDMI to DVI adapter
DVI portHDMI to VGA adapter
HDMI to DVI adapter
VGA port
HDMI to VGA adapter

Note: Some adapters may not be compatible or may cause performance problems. "

And that's it. No good advice on what sort of adaptor to buy.

My problem is that after buying such an expensive piece of kit and paying various people to be able to live, I'm on a very limited budget. If I buy an adaptor that doesn't work, I have to send it back and wait for a refund before I can afford to buy a new one. There shouldn't be this much hassle to get a new piece of equipment up and running.

Please Oculus, I would have happily paid an extra £20 for this kit if there was an official adaptor in the box that you know works.

Please, pupdate your official site with a list of known adaptors that work to help us get what we need to make, what is probably a great piece of kit, bring joy into our lives.

For future versions, (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!) include an adaptor in the box! All graphics cards can manage it, and for the price that this piece of kit is, a tiny little adaptor is not going to break the bank.

p.s. I've posted in the support section for help, with a list of adaptors I've tried and problems I'm seeing. I would really appreciate some feedback.

Thanks!

Guess you meant "DisplayPort adapter" in the title, right?
A display adapter is a monitor, a TV or a projector.

This one worked fine for me with the 295X2, as per some Reddit comments when you google the subject. I'm on Vega 64 now though.

I bought one of these! It wouldn't even pick up the hdmi signal!

Guess you haven't been able to try it on a different system? Maybe you have a problem with the Rift itself, or maybe a problem with your set up in general. And to get that out of the way, you are using the 295X2 for your monitor(s) as well, right?

I'd suggest raising a ticket at https://support.oculus.com/

(Oh and as to including an adapter in the box ... no. Mini-DP such as the 295X2 needs is relatively uncommon; direct HDMI is recommended where possible - so as most people would not need or even be able to use such an adapter it would still increase the price for everyone).

The rift itself is fine. I can plug it into the motherboards HDMI slot and it works, though it doesn't have the power to work well and Steam doesn't even see it.

Oculus really ought to move over to DP from HDMI in the next iteration. HDMI is getting pretty rare and a lot of modern graphics cards just don't have that port anymore or only have 1. An adapter in the box would make sense, though mini-DP is an exotic thing. The only place I've ever seen one is on a tablet.

Doesn't make sense.

Most PC users and owners of a monitor will likely (like I do) have that mysterious box/drawer with dozens of connections/cables/adapters....I myself have TONS of monitor cables that simply accumulated in time. DVI, HDMI, etc,

Typically you wouldn't even need an adapter, you connect your Rift to the one HDMI on your GPU and then connect your monitor using a DVI cable, 2nd HDMI (if you have one) or using an adapter. I consider it VERY unlikely that an average PC user doesn't have DVI monitor cables...

YOU DON'T use any motherboard HDMI ports whatsoever. It's bad. Please don't give wrong advice here.

that's not what he's saying; he's saying he tested the rift in the Motherboard HDMI socket and it powered (though Steam not seeing it suggests other things wrong).

maybe lodge a support ticket? better than spending more money on adapters that won't help.
Though you are more than slightly incoherent, I agree with you Madam,
a plum is a terrible thing to do to a nostril.
