Oculus's PR need work?

I like how oculus works but it seems to have a few things it constantly does that could use some work.

1. hold on to big info and then release it at grand events, while holding even more big info that they might release later.

2. Mostly let a "people will be the judg, Not I" type feel to them.

I know they release a lot of info and very nice with releasing the specs but does it feel their PR is a bit abnormal? Maybe its just me, in which case this thread can be removed but has anyone else noticed that it seems odd how their going about their biggest thing yet?

I actually think their overall PR is astounding. As someone who gets their Tweet notifications I'm constantly seeing various press from both Oculus and the media about how "amazing", "magical" and "groundbreaking" The Rift is. Where they are letting anyone down is "fan service". This is a bit more niche, but they probably need to cater a little more to what the fans want and not just the media. Now again, compared to the other two (Sony and Valve) I think their PR has been better, but there's definitely room for improvement and hopefully we get some of that "fan service" soon.

I think so too, yeah. Plus, I don't think their PR has really started in full yet. I'd expect around the time the pre-order goes up and they' start marketing the Rift and promoting full swing, they'll get better with things. Up until recently, they haven't really had a product to sell. Even the Gear is Samsungs thing, so lets give them a chance.

You're not wrong, warownslife. The PR department could use some work. Especially damage control. When Brendan Iribe let slip the $1500 gaff, for more than a week news sources reported it as "Rift is going to cost $1500.". As far as I know, no retractions or corrections were ever asked or offered.

Oculus' "slow drip" info feed creates more frustration than anticipation.
Not a Rift fanboi. Not a Vive fanboi. I'm a VR fanboi. Get it straight.

They probably didn't worry about because for the general populous all VR is pretty much under the radar. Someone on reddit put up the amount of google searches around VR devices versus something like PS4 or Xbox. No one is watching right now but us and tech media. No buying decisions are being made or unmade so there is no reason to really respond.

The biggest mistake so far was showing the virtual cinema solution for XBOX streaming right at the beginning of their presentation.
A lot of people who never thought about VR before now seem to think it's all about playing games on a virtual cinema screen.

VR going to be a very hard sell anyways because you cannot show what it's about without getting people to put on a VR headset themselves.

The worst thing Oculus can do now is to nourish misconceptions about VR in the general public.
