I'm fine with this.

The more store fronts for developers the better as far as I'm concerned.

It's not as if Facebook are going to do a Cease & Desist job on Sidequest. The two can quite happily exist in tandem.

I am sure FB will allow SQ to exists as it does now alongside their own in house SQ, just as they did with all those non mandatory FB accounts requirements for everone not owning a Q2. 😉

I think it's going to be more interesting to see how Oculus transitions to Quest (1 and 2) wireless PCVR.  Esp. since right now Virtual Desktop works so well imho.  Hopefully there will be a meeting of the minds.

I want to try sidequest, but I don't want my account banned.  I have wayyyy too many games and money invested in Oculus.  My TPCastVR went out about a year ago and I just went back to being wired.  Now my wire on the CV1 is starting to twist.  I can use my Quest 1, but I wanted to try Virtual Desktop with my Quest 1 before getting the Quest 2 (CV1 Replacement).  I really don't want to buy a Reverb G2 to replace my CV1, but if I could be banned for using Sidequest/Virtual Desktop, I might not have an option.  I already sign in with Facebook so I really don't care about that.  I also read that you have to put a credit card in now to get Developer Mode access.  I have to see what they are charging if anything.  I guess I could wait a few months to see what the Facebook Sideloading will let me do.  It might let me install the Streaming portion of Virtual Desktop.  I've seen sooo many VR Content Creators using and doing, but with my luck as soon as I do it,  they will ban us all. =(  I might just be paranoid.  What do you good folks think?

If virtual desktop is as good as the TPCast was, I'd order a Quest 2 and box up my CV1 before my cable gets too bad.  I love that thing.  It's soooooo smooth. The visuals are just outdated. =(

Using Sidequest to install legitimate software will not get anyone banned.
I'm using it and will carry on doing so, I think all the mods who have Quests are doing the same. You've really got to do something that's against Oculus' or Facebook's terms of service to warrant any punitive measure. Sidequest definitely isn't that.

If Facebook decide in the future to prevent Sidequest from working, in favour of their own sideloader, then that's up to them but it won't make Sidequest suddenly an offence, worse case is it'll just stop working.

If Facebook have their own sideloader, there would probably be a natural migration of users to that, rather than Sidequest, as it would be a built-in service, so would probably be more immediately available and thought of as the default option, disabling Sidequest probably wouldn't be necessary.

However, if Sidequest loses its users to a 'default' sideloader, it may then slowly morph into the preferred option for illegitimate, unsigned software or the facilitator for pirated software. At which point Facebook may decide to lock it out.
