Okay.. so now im getting a little annoyed :P (Vive/Oculus)

Alright, I love Oculus, been keeping up with them since the beginning and I have a preorder for May. I had been loosely following the Vive for a while but i kind of wrote it off because I didnt think they could compete with the Rift. HTC and Valve have just been killing it with coverage and open business practices. Every VR video I see has a Vive in it and I get really excited watching all the Node videos but I question if the Rift will be able to do all these things that the Vive is doing? Where are all the CV1 videos with devs talking about it and showing off Touch demos? Seems like everything is behind closed doors and that really sucks when HTC is show boating their HMD and motion controllers with style. And its really starting to look appealing... I now have both HMD's preordered, but am holding out on canceling one.

So which is better? I know the specs are practically the same, but which tracking system is better? Will I have a good seated experience with the Vive or will I have to move the light houses to better accommodate a seated experience?
I have plenty of room for room scale, roughly 280 sq ft. I want to play cloudlands mini golf when im having friends over for a party, then switch to my HOTAS setup and play some ED. Its just frustrating because I want to light a fire under Oculus' ass so they'll start showing some demos. This is crucial, im sure they are losing customers because they have been so quite. If Palmer would just make a 2 minute video of the CV1 being able to work in roomscale im sure that would see so many more units.

for an oculus forum there sure is an ofull lot of "vive is better" threads lol. I was going to go for the vive but the rift had 3 things that won me over.

1- Price upfront ( i can pay 650 now and get into the action and later on pay for the extra camera and touch) vs the full 800 of the vive.

2- Room scale will essentially be the same on both devices later this year so why even bother comparing?

3- Games will work on both

Right now I understand this is just an educated guess, because I searched the web endlessly, but I just found the rift+touch being showed up in a black prepared room (mostly), the opinions of those who tested it were mixed but far from "wow". On the other side, we have a wow on the living room of a random guy, and I look at my room and I say why not? That's the point that shifted me from rift to vive. True that up front it will be more expensive, but on the long run it will be cheaper. My only concern with the vive right now is the sweating part, but we don't know if the rift is much better, and of course the exclusive content of the oculus.

I'm a major admirer of Oculus. But I'm starting to lose hope as well... One thing that worries me most is that developers are crossing over to HTC/Valve. I’m going to spent a lot of money on the Rift and I don’t want to end up with an useless device. Without the developers it just another crappy Kickstarter project in the end… like 99% of them :? :? :? :? :?

The Vive is better because it has a better way to detect position.

Anybody that understands the math behind the triangulation knows that the Rift lacks precision in one dimension: the distance to the led.

Constellation is a waste of time, it can never be anywhere near Lighthouse in terms of precision.

Game Over.

Edit: Now I'm not even mentioning the over engineered stack of bloatware that the runtime is, where every tech from async timewarp to late latching also are a complete waste of time.

I can't even use my DK2 anymore because they removed extended, we should be refunded really!

Bottom line, Palmer cares more about VR than he cares about the Rift, that's why he sold.
"It's like Homeworld in first person." Disable Aero and vSync for a completely simulator sickness free experience with 2xHz FPS. Keep the config utility open for tracking to work.

I totally agree. Everywhere you look, you see the HTC Vive and how awesome the Hand tracking is.
I understand that Oculus has put all the Devs who already have had a CV1 for the past 6months under very strict NDAs.

I still think the Rift HMD is better and that there are way more games in development for the Rift than there are for the Vive, but it really looks like Oculus is loosing the lead fast.

"Standing", "walking", "wildly throwing your arms around" experiences get you much more tired than people think and looking at how the Wii has really died off does worry me somewhat.

I am annoyed at how much Oculus has been pushing the "mobile" branch and seemingly left all us PC Gamers out to dry.
VR Cinema for the PC has been gone for over 2years now and I sure hope that with the release of Oculus Home that we get some descent attention back.

Yeah have fun with the vive hopping around with all the dreadlocks coming out of your hmd.
Can't wait for the youtube vids of people hanging from the ceiling.
