"Standing", "walking", "wildly throwing your arms around" experiences get you much more tired than people think and looking at how the Wii has really died off does worry me somewhat.

And such committed opinions from people who have possession of neither device? It's quite remarkable.

This made me wonder some time ago as well. I guess, each side has their inner need to prove the opposite "camp" wrong and justify their decision why they spent their money.
Too bad. I kind of miss the old forum. Right now all is about Vive vs Rift and why every other person is wrong. I'm thinking about making a break from this place.

But, overall I think it's very healthy to get people talking about the two, and listen to some user's decisions. Some people make some interesting arguments, while others are just plain subjective to their liking.

I think a lot of us are DK2 owners so already have an investment in Oculus. It seems a little pointless investing in the CV1 as its pretty much offers the same experience as DK2.

I've bought the DK1 shortly after it was released. Not from Oculus, but from someone who said VR was a dead end, and the thing was horror. When I got home and tried my first demo, I was blown away. VR was amazing! I started giving demo's and follow Oculus on the foot. Palmer and his team did an amazing job and I really felt with them. It was a nice small club, who listened to the community.
I was shocked when Facebook came in and took over. On the other hand I was happy to see that development was taking big steps. I bought the DK2 as well and the company was growing rapidly. It was an amazing journey and I really believed in Oculus. But slowly the doors where closed to the community.
I talked to Palmer about the HTC Vive and he was blown away himself. It was a great chat and I was optimistic about Oculus again because there was a friendly completion between the two companies, it felt really good. The real turn came shortly before the preorders for the CV1. I feel Oculus turned their backs to everyone. Support isn’t answering, marketing just ignores every question, there are no real announcements anymore. It is impossible to get in touch with them.
HTC takes a complete opposite direction. I’ve been invited by HTC several times for a private session. I’ve tried the Vive numerous times and played many demo’s. The device is amazing! Not only the device is great, HTC has a helpdesk which can help you live! HTC has great marketing and press and customer support.
Okay, I’m a bit hurt now that they F&#^ up a few preorder (including mine), and it is still uncertain if they can fix it. But they don’t need the community manager to support you! I never had any answer from Oculus press or marketing. I feel HTC is really helping…
My biggest problem is that my heart lies with Palmer, John, Andres and the Oculus Rift, but my mind is telling me I had a far more better experiences with HTC and the Vive for several reasons: support, press contacts, VR experience, what comes with the package… I cried literally when Frontier announced Elite Dangerous wouldn’t support the Rift until June! I play the game every day with my DK2. I see a lot of developers stepping over to the other platform. It is painful to see, but I understand them.
To be clear: I've tried the DK1, DK2, Crescent Bay, latest engineering’s sample, HTC Vive, OSVR, PlayStation VR, Gear VR, Zeiss VROne and many Google Cardboard clones. My experiences are not based on a few posts on the internet. I’ve tried them all.
If Oculus can fix their press and customer service, I think they will come a long way. But my stomach hurts to see HTC is taking the leap.
