Otoy 18K video playback for Rift+GearVR

I've been interested in this idea for a while and wanted to resurrect an old conversation from this forum:

Does anybody have any updates on this technique using Otoy software to create high resolution video files (filmed video, not CG rendered) for playback in GearVR and Rift?

i heard that this will be part of one of the most used engines, but forgot which one, i think it was unity. But who knows this is to good to be free OOTB.
