Palmer Luckey about shipping

Palmer Luckey: "With Rift launching in a matter of days, I don't have time to troll around Reddit trying to figure out what people want. Top comment as determined by the community gets a response at the end of the day, so upvote wisely.
Don't waste your upvotes asking about granular shipping updates, that is happening soon, no amount of questions will make it happen faster)"

i understand the guy is busy, but if they don't know who is getting the first shipment and they are a week out... then a whole group of people dropped the ball. once again if Oculus was a small independent company I could cut them some slack, but since they sold out to Facebook they should have the resources and the ability to provide this information.

Except that thinking is wrong still. It's not like Facebook is this giant manufacturing plant. They are a web/ad company for the most part, they are staying out of Oculus way and only providing the support they need. In reality, it's all new area for both companies. Oculus is still new as a company by all meaning of the word. It's not like they were something else then change the name of the company.

I see lot of butthurt people complaining about the wording. ON REDDIT.
Do you see the irony? No? Of course, redditors rarely do.
I can kinda understand why he doesn't want to waste time on masses of people on a medium that's not really an official channel.
Then some even declare themselves "customers" which is even funnier knowing the amount of CV1 sold. No, perordered doesn't equal bought, as the money is still on the bank accounts of those "customers".

Reddit is chaotic af, most of the posts being trolling, flaming and emowars. You can't expect a key person in a serious business to waste time on reddit trying to please every single troll's political sensitivity.

What's next? Oculus team didn't reply on rockstar social club or what?

I must admit that I silently judge those who ask the inane preparatory questions such as granular shipping dates. This question is the adult version of, "are we there yet?"

That comparison only holds water if the person driving the car promised to give you an ETA, and then every time you ask them for that ETA, they respond with "Soon."

What does the word "granular" add to the concept of shipping date that isn't already expressed in those two words? If you really need to modify an already specific phrase, just call it "individual shipping dates" and then you won't sound silly, like Palmer.

Makes me think of a box full of sugar arriving at my door.  😄

everything else aside......

What is it with Reddit?

This is not just aimed at oculus giving out new info on the rift, but loads of companies do it..... Posting out new unique info on random 3rd party sites and ignoring their own official channels.

Sure, paste the info to reddit, tw@tter, FriendFace, or where ever they like, but surely the primary point of chat with a companies employees (/founder in this case) should be on their own forums shouldnt it?

sorry pre coffee i must be a bit twitchy 😉

Why not use someone else's bandwidth if you dont have to use your own.
Not a Rift fanboi. Not a Vive fanboi. I'm a VR fanboi. Get it straight.

I can't fathom all the complaints. If you got a March Shipping date it's shipping on the 28th, why are you guys being so anal about getting that confirmed? I'm more worried about people like myself who have a post March shipping date and might have gotten moved up. The real people who could use an Update are the April folks who might have gotten moved up to March, but then again they should still assume april and just be happy if it ends up shipping on the 28th.

Also in regards to Palmer's tone, you're lucky someone in his position at this point in time is even communicating with the community, you never get this kind of interaction from figureheads and you're all shitting on it?
