He said if you gave everyone a high end system vr still wouldn't go mainstream yet. You can easily find and read this vr news. Oculus said why they are going to start off with inside tracking 1st. The next headset will basically be the same. I don't totally disagree since the co-founder left Oculus because he wanted to do major upgrades which would take the latest upgraded CPU equipment that would keep pricing High. So It May Be Best To Do This painstakingly  slow. I'll probably be dead when the  happens.
Part of article:
In the wake of the overhaul’s cancellation, the company will be pursuing a more modest product update — possibly called the “Rift S” — to be released as early as next year, which makes minor upgrades to the device’s display resolution while more notably getting rid of the external sensor-tracking system, sources tell us. Instead, the headset will utilize the integrated “inside-out” Insight tracking system, which is core to Facebook’s recently announced Oculus Quest standalone headset.

Completely agree. This is why I still have a 980 for my Rift, and never bother with Super Sampling nor any other videophile configurations. I enjoy that sense of immersion from the presence achieved via the combination of visuals and audio; but "badass graphics" are simply not necessary. Afterall, without my prescription lenses I have blurry vision in real life... yet I still feel quite present and immersed on planet Earth lol

If that is true you are sorted once the quest arrives!.

For those however who want the cutting edge visuals which only a high end pc can provide however it is not so easy.
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR 🙂

I have a Rift and a GO, and I will have the Quest as well. I'm not "unsorted" now, nor have I been unsorted since owning my Rift in 2016. No sorting is required. Those who want "cutting edge visuals" represent a very small number of the VR Market, and gaming industry overall.

That may be true but it does not mean they do not need to be catered for, or that they are not a niche worthy of servicing..... there is a reason why nvidia are able to sell gpus at over £1000 a pop.......

I agree that only a small amount of people care enough about cutting edge visuals  to pay through the roof. I won't be surprised if the quest becomes the main headset developers care most about if  it runs toward mainstream. .

I have absolutely no problem being tethered to my PC.
PC is what I do. All the gaming I do. They are all on my PC.

My interest in VR is only on those who will cater, or continue to cater, to what I want in a VR device. I very much hope Oculus continues to do so, cause I absolutely love my Rift which I have used pretty much daily since Jan 15 2017.

It's great that you don't mind being tethered. But if you were not I don't believe you would like tethered and untethered equally. Superhot  would be better untethered.

Yes, and it's called: Cryptomining

Nahhh, lots of gaming enthusiasts like myself are clamoring to try and get their hands on 2080 Ti's currently.
EVGA still can't even keep up with demand in NA yet on their custom 2080 Ti FTW3 , not to mention their other models and they  have a 1 card limit per household on them all.

Agreed, but we are all fully aware of shortages and price hikes from high-end GPU's as a direct result of Cryptomining.
