Possible 4-Sensor setup question.

Hey all. I'm currently setting up a new office, with plenty of space for maximum room scaling and I currently have a third sensor on order, but I'm considering a 4th.

This question somewhat applies to both a 3-sensor and 4-sensor setup, but I'm curious what you guys think.

This is the current planned layout;
https://snag.gy/j570rt.jpg

The red dots are sensor locations, the green is the desk, and the light gray is the expect play area.

The idea is I actually mount the rear sensors *to the ceiling*, upside down and pointing down about 45-65~ degrees, where as the 2 front sensors are on each side of the desk pointing forward or tilted up a bit.

Do you think this setup will work? (Can sensors even be upsidedown?) I've read you shouldn't put your sensors above your head, but I'm wondering if the extra sensor will make up for it?

My alternative idea was to simply buy 2 tripods, and put the rear sensors on tripods I can move out of the way when I'm not using. But I like the ceiling idea more, as it's a much more permanent solution with less setup when I want to play.

Not sure why it seems some people make it sound like you need custom mounts for the ceiling/wall using 3D printers and such or just some sort of custom build one way or the other when all you need is this:

I'm using three at the moment, works like a charm. Not sure what four will do that three won't but I would be curious to know how the tracking is. I have one on a speaker to my left, the middle one up high on the mantle, and one kinda low on a table to my right. I'm curious as well as to who's had luck with 10ft cables and what brand?

I agree, everything I've seen online shows a very negligible difference between 3 and 4 sensors. But I'm riding off the idea I may be purposely putting them in not-ideal locations (for aesthetics) and the forth sensors might make up for it.

But, I haven't ordered the forth yet (the third hasn't even arrived) so I can't really test anything at the moment. 🙂

Oh, I like those. Did you buy these for yours? Do you know if they fit the sensors?

1/4" 20 thread. Looked it up on Oculus' web site to verify. I just ordered one. They should work.

I'm using 3 sensors now with the front two at ceiling height. The third sensor (positioned as recommended by Oculus - visit ocul.us/360support for more details) is not ceiling height yet, but it will be when my third camera mount arrives : https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B013SYTMLM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Those work really well for me, but the others that jayhawk linked look just as good. Any 1/4" 20 thread will fit - these mounts are meant for CCTV cameras that have that same size mount.

I'm with the other guys and really not sure if a 4th camera will help you much. You don't have any measurements in your diagram 🙂

I don't actually know the measurements yet to be honest. This is all going in my converted 2 car garbage (into a 16 by 17 foot indiedev office/gameroom) that isn't moved into yet. The area will have more space than I need for the maximum sized roomscale according to Oculus (8.2 by 8.2 feet?). So I guess the cameras will all be 10 feet across from the sensor on the other side of it

That sounds really cool! Wish I had that much space to play with. Have you had a look at the documents I linked to on ocul.us? They have some pretty good info in there about sizes and placement of cameras (but a 4 camera setup is missing).
