Post FB Buyout, it all feels a bit meh

Noone seems to be maintaining this board, it's filled with bots leaving crap.

Sony are showing off way more impressive stuff on their VR offering than anything currently on the Rift.

No hardware news at E3

It's all starting to feel like the beginning of a slump to me.

What is most interesting to me is that many of the guys who have been the smartest guys in the room for the past 20 years in gaming tech have made a mass migration over to Oculus.

I'm kicking back and watching this show unfold now. I say, just WAIT - what is likely to come from team Carmack-Abrash-ETC-ETC-ETC is likely to blow us away. I'm investing in a 20ft. ladder so I can get my shorts out of the tree next to my house when they show us CV1. 😉

Well, I do have to admit that the Sony Morpheus demo that is a street luge in traffic does seem interesting. Too bad us commoners will probably never get to try it.

This thread is pretty silly. They're obviously keeping the cards close to the chest until they are ready to announce a final product. They just announced DK2 a few months ago and they haven't even shipped yet. If you want instant gratification, you're in the wrong place. If you do your homework, there's plenty of tasty tidbits to keep you salivating about what's around the corner.

I used to look for news in this forum, but now I look at Reddit, which is constantly updated

LOL... don't speak for everyone. .

What gives you the idea he does?
Last sentence he said"It's all starting to feel like the beginning of a slump to me."

He really is talking about himself and no one else.

I do agree with the OP, this forum seems to be unimportant.

This is meant to be a developers forum after all. Not exactly the most ideal place to get news about the goings on of things outside of indy development. If you just want info and enthusiast conversation, Reddit is the obvious choice for those things. I'm not a developer right now, but I enjoy the topics that come up and enjoy seeing what people are working on. When I really just want casual conversation about VR and all things enthusiast, I go to reddit.

Personally, nothing about Oculus or VR says "meh" to me. I think we're are privileged to be here to witness the birth and early life of a new medium that's going to have a huge impact on the future of so many different things. It's exciting as hell and moving at a blistering pace when you consider where VR was just a mere two years ago.

Not sure how anyone could consider that the development is in a slump. They are still hiring some of the brightest individuals in the industry, and creating/building all new components for the consumer version, not to mention the development, and publishing of VR content. It would be very foolish to tell your competition all your plans, and it doesn't take much imagination to see all the hard work going on in the background, but I don't blame people for fishing for new info.

At the risk of sounding combative - what have Sony shown off on their (unavailable) VR offering that is 'way more impressive'?

I agree with this. It's cool that they have the PSMove controllers I guess... but Oculus is now showing off Alien: Isolation, Lucky's Tale, Superhot, etc. While Sony is showing off tech demos - it's like they're still at least a year behind the Rift in software. Oh, and Dying Light was in the news again for Rift support - which is exciting.

That's not true at all. I'm on the forum, all day long as my full-time job. I've also been checking the forum even on my own time to deal with spam and to answer private messages.

There are not many companies that you can private message them and get a personal response within a few hours. We also have software engineers jumping in the forum and helping people with their projects.

Just because there are spammers slipping through the cracks here and there does not mean Oculus doesn't care about the community.

I'll back you up on that one!
