Post FB Buyout, it all feels a bit meh

Noone seems to be maintaining this board, it's filled with bots leaving crap.

Sony are showing off way more impressive stuff on their VR offering than anything currently on the Rift.

No hardware news at E3

It's all starting to feel like the beginning of a slump to me.

Imo fb buyout is fantastic.
Oculus deserved that and since then plenty of INCREDIBLY smart and talented awesome people have joined oculus. now VR have a real chance

I don't think you're in a position to comment on how the fb buyout is affecting Oculus unless you work there.

He said post FB buyout. He had his impression before, and now he's giving his impression after, which he is completely in a position to do. He never made claims about how the buyout is affecting anything, only that afterwards everything feels more "meh" to him.

Facebook buyout might turn out to be for the best, but I hate Facebook and I just can't get excited about the aspect where Facebook has ownership of the flagship device in the coming new VR revolution.

Since testing the DK1, I haven't been in doubt about the future of VR at all, FB buyout or not. DK2 and CV1 will and always were going to be fantastic devices. Will whatever bells and whistles that come with the FB money be worth the cost that may come with them owning Oculus down the road? Only time will tell.

That's not true at all. I'm on the forum, all day long as my full-time job. I've also been checking the forum even on my own time to deal with spam and to answer private messages.

That's the absolute truth! .. Cybe helped me thru the order process when the order page was broken in the first days of the DK2 launch. He helped me in a matter of minutes, that was actually one of the most helpful event that happened to me when having a problem with an online order! Normally, I have to deal by phone with some random people when that happens...

Wow. I have experienced quite the opposite here. I have seen amazing discussions and more than just the hints of things to come but the shaping of ideas. If you don't have the patience to wait then don't. Build your own unit. People here have. This isn't the consumer Oculus forum. That is ahead. That is tomorrow not today. What this is something far more exciting, a chance to peek behind the curtain just before the greatest show on earth begins. If that doesn't do it for you, can't help ya.

LOL... don't speak for everyone. .

What gives you the idea he does?
Last sentence he said"It's all starting to feel like the beginning of a slump to me."

He really is talking about himself and no one else.

I do agree with the OP, this forum seems to be unimportant.

"Sony are showing off way more impressive stuff on their VR offering than anything currently on the Rift."

He stated it as a fact, and I said don't speak for everyone. He hasn't even USED Morpheus and is basing it solely on a piece of polished software rather than thinking about the lacking hardware (vs the rift). So no, I'm impressed at this point by the potential and the hardware of the Rift, the software will come in time - it's too soon to expect AAA just yet. As for Sony, their VR is a long while away yet regardless of what they are showing now.

And yeah, his thread title and general tone does seem to imply that his feelings are what everyone must feel. I've never been more excited for the rift than I am today! we've waited 20+ years and some people are just too impatient, preferring them to rush VR and risk blowing it instead of giving them chance to blow minds instead.

what he said.
i feel lucky to be present at a critical point in the history of multimedia, with a group of unique and knowledgeable geeks and enthusiasts

if/when these indie dev forums disappear and a slicker consumer version is launched, it wont be the same. this crazy prelaunch hype moment in time will have passed.. even if/when i move on somewhere else i will no doubt think back to E3 2014 and smile
I preordered a DK2 in April, from Australia.. ..and Im still completely sane!! ;P

I am not a FB fan at all.

Post like this one leave a sour tast in my mouth though.

I see a forum where you see actualy dev feedback. Yes there is a couple of spam threads but how do you connect them to the FB buyout exactly?

Cyber does his best to moderate and answer questions as good as he can imo.

The last thing we need on here is more FB threads.

This thread is a bit meh!

There are not many companies that you can private message them and get a personal response within a few hours. We also have software engineers jumping in the forum and helping people with their projects.

Just because there are spammers slipping through the cracks here and there does not mean Oculus doesn't care about the community.

Cyber posts on the majority of threads, even the really lame ones nobody else can be bothered to reply to, offering a word of encouragement. I have no complaints with how the site is moderated.

I would like to see though a lot more Oculus created demos / examples. Especially now they have the cash. Most of the content is coming from independent developers.

I do though expect this forum to quieten down as the consumer version looms closer and developers concentrate less on demos / proof of concept and start developing real games.
