Post FB Buyout, it all feels a bit meh

Noone seems to be maintaining this board, it's filled with bots leaving crap.

Sony are showing off way more impressive stuff on their VR offering than anything currently on the Rift.

No hardware news at E3

It's all starting to feel like the beginning of a slump to me.

I've acknowledged that already. Twice. Well done.

Yeah, I can tell you're going to be real popular around here, boss. Nothing wrong with sharing your opinions, but tact is a valuable tool when you do.

I'll echo that Oculus gives these threads a tone of attention. Usually you would expect them to be dealing mostly in the technical section helping developers but on top of that you have Cyber weighing on almost every hypothetical discussion.

The spam is annoying but they are clearing it up quickly.

Overall the only changes we have seen with the Facebook buyout are a lot more new hires and the recent deal with Samsung all of which have been made better through the relationship. Also maybe a bit more tit lipped around CV1 but that seemed to be the case before the buyout as well.

that was one messed up visual you left me with after reading that...thanks a lot.

It is a great sign that the Oculus Rift is a force to be reckoned with, when so many obvious Sony Fan Boys feel the need to troll through this forum and drop little flames wherever they can.

Please ignore such nonsense...

Dear oh dear Will. Is that really the sum of your intelligence ? "I dont agree, so I'll call him a troll"

I don't own a playstation, and I DO own a Rift. I'm far from a Sony fanboy.
However, I think they've been far smarter with the introduction of their kit.
They've put out some decent hardware, with some immediately impressive demos which ANYONE can pick up and play.

Of course I think for the techies amongst us there are some great demos out there, but in terms of stuff you can use to show off the unit to your average joe - ie your parents come round and you want to show them the future but they're not going to be able to get their head around complex controls - I think Oculus haven't bothered.
I'm sure I'm not the only one to think that. It's overdue. That's just my opinion. But with the likes of Carmack on board, I'm disappointed something hasn't come from them.

I'm not disputing the mods on this board read the threads. At the point I posted this though, you had to scroll through pages of spam from bots to find a thread. It takes 10 seconds to delete a thread, it didnt look to me like the mods on here were bothering. I've already said they are now though - great.
I stand by the fact there is a severe lack of informational/entertaining updates from Oculus on here though.
With all the extra cash and staff they have post fb buyout, I expected more.

Every time you post a poor little kitten somwhere dies.... please stop.

And Cyber ive been around the forums for a while even though I just recently signed up, but I have always seen you do a GREAT job! Keep it up!

I don't think you're in a position to comment on how the fb buyout is affecting Oculus unless you work there.

It could be coincidence of course, it just feels that there's less effort being made by the Oculus team atm.
I freely admit I could be wrong and it's all stuff happening behind the scenes, but I think Sony will end up winning people round faster than Oculus if things continue the way they are atm.
All imho of course. I still love my Rift, goes without saying.

Sony could bring out a 4K uber rift smashing VR device.... but as long as it is hobbled by being tied to the PS4 imo it is not going to rival the rift.

Sure, it may make an ok "cheap" entry level way into VR, but if you have the cash for a decent PC I just dont see it being a contest.

IF VR needs a high framerate, even many current high end PCs are going to struggle.....

YES sony may eventually have the weight of numbers on their side, but I have never worried about numbers, which is why I owned a dreamcast and a "real" xbox1, I go where the best games at the time are, and as far as VR is concerned I do not think the PS4 (and god help the "new" XB1) have the horsepower.

I get the feeling that the OP is more of a BIG HOLLYWOOD type marketing campaign fan, - I think CIG are a great example of this with the star citizen bumpf. There is no doubting in the short term it does generate interest and bring in cash, but it also burns through a whole bunch of money for no real long term benifit.

Keeping my analogy I much prefer my under promise and over deliver, and let the product sell its self, once there is something out there to sell, and this is very much like the route frontier are going with elite.

(I use these examples becasue they too are 2 similar products both sort of competing, (and in their case both supportive of each other)

but then I am British and generally quite reserved. I dislike advertising too much when there is no product to sell yet so I guess I am biased. I think Oculus are doing a bang up job, both pre AND post facebook.
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR 🙂

Well the biggest limitation of Morpheus is processing power.
The CV1 is supposed to be higher than 1080p but even if it isn't, Morpheus won't be.

That old comment may have been before it happened, but given Oculus's current relationship with Samsung they are in a position to bring us the most advanced possible screen technology. Even Sony lags behind Samsung now in consumer small screen tech. Sony can in no way win a numbers race anymore, Oculus simply has access to more resources and a far larger VR team.

Screen tech was Sony's only potential edge before, and now Oculus appears to have taken steps to mitigate its lack of direct control over screen design and manufacturing.

The appeal of Sony's device will simply be to those who already have or wanted a PS4 and move. Most people in that class may not have a high end gaming PC and thus PS4 would be their best VR option. And I am sure Sony will come up with some cool games to push the device. It seemed like at E3 non-gaming enthusiest tech people liked the Morpheus more than Oculus simply because their Demos were more immersive, read had motion control that felt plausibly realistic.
