Post FB Buyout, it all feels a bit meh

Noone seems to be maintaining this board, it's filled with bots leaving crap.

Sony are showing off way more impressive stuff on their VR offering than anything currently on the Rift.

No hardware news at E3

It's all starting to feel like the beginning of a slump to me.

It's the calm before the storm most likely. Oculus doesn't really seem to care about these forums, you'll get news here because users on this forum are constantly on the look out elsewhere for Rift news and they'll post it here if they find something worth it.

Edit: No offense Cyber, it's just really apparent the forums are low priority for Oculus.

Lots of us are new to oculus and excited, maybe you just need to take a break from following it until CV1 gets near to release? It can be fatiguing trying to stay excited about a product for so long.

Lots of ppl tired of their DK1 and ready to move on to a more practical device, need more developers to churn out content, forums are going to get redone pretty soon etc.. etc.. This has nothing to do with the Facebook buyout. In fact, I don't see how the facebook buyout could be seen as anything but positive in light of all their explanations.

I don't think you're in a position to comment on how the fb buyout is affecting Oculus unless you work there.

It could be coincidence of course, it just feels that there's less effort being made by the Oculus team atm.
I freely admit I could be wrong and it's all stuff happening behind the scenes, but I think Sony will end up winning people round faster than Oculus if things continue the way they are atm.
All imho of course. I still love my Rift, goes without saying.

Whether you are more impressed with the software being shown by Sony or Oculus is subjective, so not an indication of anything other than your own personal taste. Oculus is quiet because theres a lot of stuff going on inside the company. The new injection of resources, all of the new hires, all of the new potential that has to be considered now. My guess is that e3 came too soon for Oculus this year. They're finally showing some official software which is great, but the hardware is likely in a constant state of evolution. The next logical hardware to show would be the cv1 or something very close to it, but if thats still evolving, probably best to not show anything.

I think it's quite the opposite

When they were still independent, and they were just a dozen passionate guys in a small office, their progress looked fast because they were sharing everything they were doing, but in reality they were "just" putting together all the existing technology from other fields into this new HMD device, so that everything they did seemed fresh: but let's remember the original Rift is just a smartphone screen, two common lenses, a "standard" tracker and "some" software trick to reduce latency.

Now they're acting more like a big corporation (though they are still very open), the facebook acquisition put them in a position to attract tons of brilliant guys, and all those guys are surely making huge progresses behind the curtains, but information is now being spilled a drop at a time like other similar companies, and when they'll finally announce the real thing it will be just as explosive for the gaming community as the first NES or the first PlayStation, that's guaranteed 8-)

Completely disagree. With new demos being shown and more people gaining access to DK2 with showings and such, maybe this particular forum which seems to be the lowest point of contact/news/information regarding Oculus stuff is slowing, but elsewhere it seems on fire.

The Oculus subreddit is a great source along with RoadToVR. There's Youtube channels that are gaining traction like emart's and I will have a damned field day on downloads when I get the DK2 in about a month (hopefully) ...

Sure, there hasn't been much stated but what major hardware manufacturer leaks final specs and plans 6-12 months before a release? It's better to fine tune than to have a bunch of disjointed information out there. I do think the FB accusation may have put a bit more limitations on what could be shared, but I don't think there is much they want/can announce at this time, it's just a quiet time. I mean, there are a TON of things being developed out there and we don't receive daily updates.

LOL... don't speak for everyone. They can't always be bringing hype, shit has to happen behind the scenes too you know? VR isn't a quick fix, it needs to be executed right. DK2 is about to launch, that is more than good enough for the next 6 months. We need content before we (they) worry about CV1 and stoking the hype train some more...

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text. Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing? A: Top-posting. Q: What is the most annoying thing on forums?

At the risk of sounding combative - what have Sony shown off on their (unavailable) VR offering that is 'way more impressive'?
