I have to say - I hate spiders in games (especially System Shock 2's and the ones in Arx Fatalis). But I never once got grossed out by them in flat Skyrim - not sure why, and it isn't cause I have gotten over my arachnophobia as I've gotten older (Deck 4 in Shock2 and the spider level in Dark Messiah of Might and Magic still give me chills to this day even thinking about it) and the less we say about real spiders the better. lol

But a few times since I have played SkyrimVR I have had to stop - at one point after a giant Frostbite Spider got right up to my face I almost threw up and still get shivers thinking about it. Another time I got surrounded by about 5 normal sized ones and I did not have enough magic points to keep them all away with fire so had to get close with a sword. Ugh - so gross.

Different subject - I read a post on reddit where someone said they lost 10 pounds in SkyrimVR as they walked/ran in place while they played the game. I'm not to worried about my weight - but I thought I'd give it a go to see how immersive it is and it definitely helped. I climbed a large mountain for a quest and sprinting across the plateaus felt awesome not to mention stopping and taking a breather for real while you look out at the distance is stunning. Mind you I got pretty disorientated and didn't realize until I bumped into my desk how far from the centre I had turned.

I also tried reading out the response lines when talking to NPCs - this is surprisingly immersive, even though I felt a bit like a fool doing it. If the software was there that this was actually an option for playing the game I'd have it turned on for sure.

Bloody hell, that Bleak Falls Barrow place is a bit bloody spooky lol 😮 :dizzy:

Not going to post any spoilers, just make sure you have clean underwear handy lmfao 😄

Are you using the sounds of skyrim mod? Some of the dungeon sounds in that are just spine chilling.

I can't stand spiders, in real life or games. I can just about stomach them in 2d skyrim, but so far I e only come across ones I know are there from previous playthroughs. I'm really not looking forward to turning around and having one right in my face.

I wonder if any of the "spider replacer" mods work in Vr...

It doesn't help what they sound like either - I haven't played a game with headphones since good old days when the only speakers I had for my computer were low end and plugging my headphones in gave me great sound.

So gaming on the Rift - I am hearing Skyrim in a way that I've never heard it before especially with all the audio mods.

Hey look, found some time to write before heading to work. Tamriel must wait again :'(

So yeah, I've only played for 11 hours in the original Skyrim. Have (or probably got) the SE too, didn't play that at all ... I guess it somehow never really got me hooked that much in pancake land, though I've spent many hours in Morrowind before that. Considering that I already paid for the original and never really got into that I was reluctant to pay near full price for a VR version, but ...

Now I'm 14 hours into Skyrim VR and loving it, though the initial hours were frustrating as I was using Steam VR beta which really messes up your controls (about half of them work somewhat, and the other half somewhat works if you switch primary hand ... neither choice makes it really playable). Thanks to this thread I found that Steam VR beta was  the culprit. Besides that it doesn't really cleanly run with the Rift; if there's an issue you may
need a reboot, as it may relaunch but it won't come up in VR. I've had to do a fair few reboots between trying to sort out my isues with the controls and having a few corrupt save games.

This is already turning into my most played VR game. Obviously it runs pretty well on my system (5820K @ 4.4GHz, 16GB, AMD Vega 64, custom loop water cooled) even with an ever increasing number of mods. I use the new Vortex rather than NMM to manage them.

Chiming in a little to the comments above: the spiders don't bother me as I don't have arachnophobia (just absolutely no love for spiders either, won't touch them) but I can imagine that it is terrifying for someone who is afraid of them. I do play on an easy difficulty level though, may still increase it a bit. I'm mostly there for the experience rather than the challenge. Is there a name for a caster wielding a bow? 🙂

So yeah, so far I'm loving Skyrim VR. One thing that's really annoying though is how easy it is to activate your shout ... I do that by accident every now and then and it scares the heck out of me each and every time ... NPC's don't like it much either. 😄

Surround Sound Speaker Question

So my CV1's headphone's ribbon has worn out (right one).  I am forced to wear my HyperXCloud headphones.  Unfortunately, because there is alot of movement I feel they are a little loose and can get a bit heavy.

I have a set of midrange 5.1 surround sound speakers: Logitech z906, being run by my Realteck HD motherboard audio-manager.  Unfortunately I can't afford anything newer or better. 😞
https://www.logitech.com/en-gb/product/speaker-system-z906

For cockpit games AC or ED the speakers, when played >50% are great.  But it doesn't sound quite right in Skyrim. For instance the footstep come from the front speakers instead of from somewhere in the middle.

EDIT - it is only the footsteps that are a problem.  But you can probably appreciate that it is a bit of a biggy.

Are there any audiophiles who might know how to get the most out of my system for Skyrim?  Thanks!

Wow shiari your finding time after all. If you have a problem time wise in the future quit your job go on unemployment and you can  spend all your time playing skyrim and talk on this thread!  Life is good.

I was playing last night and thought, wow that new sounds of Skyrim is really realistic but then, wait a minute, my god I played through the night, the birds had just woken up outside (0530). I had played seven hours straight without taking off the headset and I was not the slightest bit tired.

I am finding the Vilja follower mod recommended early really brilliant. I love it when you are close to death and she is pleading with them 'please, don't kill him, please' in such a convincing way. I then look at the dwindling health bar I have been ignoring and leg it. Almost makes me feel I have somebody with me.

Shia: I have the Mirror mod as my default power. lets me check out what I am looking like, vain I know 🙂 (will use it until I settle on my ultimate outfit) still annoying though in a middle of a fight to be checking my hair accidently. It does however pause the game.

Maybe if you find a mod that uses power as it's method of working but has an irrelevant effect on things. Not sure if you can turn it off. I am not really following the dragon born story line or using the powers unless I accidently come across a related quest. I prefer playing as John Doe rather than Dragon Doe.

7 hours of no breaks. Impossible says the vr reviewers. They say it only works in small doses. Ya they thought that when there were only short vr experiences the f----n morons. In their face!
