Quest 2 + Virtual Desktop: Working Software list

I figured that it may be good to track all software that works really well with Virtual Desktop streaming to Quest 2.

I'm sure there's already a list somewhere on the Web, but I wanted to create a community list based on things we've all tried first hand.

For now, my list is short. I have a "works well" list for all PCVR titles that play near perfect on Quest 2. In the "doesn't work well" list, will be the PCVR games that suffer any number of ailments when trying to use VD to Quest 2. This includes: Stutter, Audio Issues, Poor Tracking etc.

There's an external Document that tracks this as well, which can be viewed here:
Regarding this forum community feedback:

Doesn't work well:

  • Wilson's Heart
  • Stormland
  • Defector
  • Medium

Works well:
  • Walking Dead Onslaught
  • Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners
  • Arizona Sunshine
  • No Man’s Sky
  • Fallout4VR
  • Half-Life: Alyx
  • Phasmophobia

I'll update this list as I'm able to confirm each title myself. If anyone else has confirmed any titles, feel free to post them here, and I'll add them to the list. Also keep in mind that everything seems to work well using Link. So this is only specific to Virtual Desktop streaming.

Note that I'm using the following setup:
  • Wifi 6 Router. All home devices are on the 2.4G network, Quest 2 is the only device on the 5G Network.
  • VR Ready Alienware Laptop
  • Ethernet cable connect to Laptop.

Stormland does not work well (stutters). This has been a known issue since Virtual Desktop started working with Oculus games. I check now and then in hopes of improvements, but it’s still problematic (perhaps because ASW doesn’t work for VD).

I’ve tried both Walking Dead games (S&S and Onslaught), and both worked well (from the Oculus store). Every SteamVR game I’ve tried have worked well. Specifically on Quest 2 I’ve recently tested No Man’s Sky, Fallout4VR, and Half-Life: Alyx.

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

There is a VD wireless compatibility spreadsheet that Virtual Desktop org  keeps current.  Users can and do update this based on their experience.  Not always 100% accurate and sometimes does not cover all the different stores.  For example WD Onslaught Steam version shows that controllers are not complete.  Good to know the Oculus store version works, thanks Zen.

Still, worthwhile to look at this and add it it if possible imho.  These also get discussed on the Virtual Desktop discord channel on a regular basis and VD software updates usually mention which games compatibility have improved.

Edit; All Quest 1 and 2 are currently seen to have the Same VD compatibility (as per the VD developer's info).  So maybe edit the title of this thread to Quest 1 + 2.....

Edit #2;  Might be best to move and pin this to the Games and Apps Section.  Just a thought.

Can everyone PLEASE call it Virtual Desktop. The abbreviation can change the meaning of some posts lmfao 😮 😄

Although that could be handy when explaining one of your posts elsewhere on the interwebs to the missus, 'No dear, I was talking about Virtual Desktop and a new VR game called Filthy Whore.' 😄

Ya, some Steam games are a real pita to startup properly.  This esp. seems to be the case if you have already gone in and out from one or two other apps.  Best thing I've found is to start fresh ( shut down Virtual Desktop, reset your PC) and try again.  Generally I fine that you are best to start all games from the Virtual Desktop games tab and when you want to exit it, long press left controller menu button, and select the app with and X on it to exit the game.  Otherwise, many SteamVR games do not seem to shutdown properly and then this can screw up everything (like hung processes).  When I get stuck I often just open task manager and kill any hung up game and all steam process, then try again.

Often disruption to your internet and/or wifi can also cause a lot of problems as well.  Overall, Quest wireless is not as plug and play as a few people have said (again and again).  Sometimes you just need to play around with it and if you cannot get a game to run properly, try another game.  Imho Link is much easier and more consistent to use but wireless is a lot of fun to play with and when it does work the graphics are currently better than Link.  Hopefully Oculus will improve Link in the near future because there is no way that this should be the case imho.

I'm okay as far as that goes, if I do have...erm...problems, I can get free Viagra on the NHS 😄

A mate of mine 20 years or so ago wanted me to go to the doctor and get some and we would have gone halves on the money people paid for them, but there's no way I was going to the doctor to tell him I had a Mr Floppy problem, even if it would have earnt me a small fortune lmfao 😄 😄

This same mate also went around Essex in a mock up police car and uniform and kicked in the doors of the drug dealers in that area. He made a bloody fortune lol 😄 The bloke is a nutter, used to be a doorman and also did the security at Millwall Football Club (home of the worst football hooligans in British football). He ended up getting the sack because after a scrote slashed a girls face with a razor blade in a credit card he lost it. He ended up poking the blokes eye out and tried to burst it with his fist.

He had to move to Australia because the police wanted him for questioning on attempted murder (which he actually DIDN'T do for once!). When he moved to Oz he started doing security in his town over there. The police LOVED him because crime went down quite rapidly  😮 😄

Snowie, I think that guy's one of my neighbours, currently doing debt collection.  Apparently he does a pretty good job, lol!

Maybe we should abrev Quest wireless with Virtual Desktop as QVD?

Nope, he's gone legit now, running a bakery with his missus. I know, it shocked me too lol 😄

He did nearly die over there when he got stabbed years ago so I think that kind of changed his view of things, particularly when he had a couple of kids. He died three times apparently and they were able to bring him back again. It was a bad stabbing, he was pretty much holding his guts inside his body after it happened. 😮 The doctors were REALLY surprised that he made it apparently.
