https://www.roadtovr.com/512gb-quest-3-price-drop-128gb-discontinued/
The Quest 3 128GB model is being discontinued. But while it remains in stock the price has dropped from $500us to $430.
The 512GB model will remain available, and it has also had a price drop: from $650 to $500.
The new Quest 3S headset has a 128GB model at $300 and 256GB model at $400.

Got to say it seems like pretty aggressive pricing.
Is that a typo for the 512 3S? I'm just seeing 128 and 256 in the UK.

Yeah, looks like RoadToVR got it wrong, the store shows the Quest3S is 128GB or 256GB.

Seems to me that the Q3s should have at least come with 255Gb for $299, maybe $199 with 128Gb. This would make it a more sensible budget headset for new users and/or those who want to upgrade their Q2. Also, I think that the Q3s should come with better discounted headstrap options (Elite and Elite battery strap) since Q2 will not be able to use theirs.
I also think that Meta should have just revised the Q3 entry level at 256Gb for $499, maybe $599 for 512Gb. I preordered my Q3/512Gb last year and now feel a little ripped off that it cost me $150 more. Still, not as ripped off as when my preordered QPro went from $1,500 to $1,000. Oh well, that's the Meta VR business for you; delight, then disappoint, then repeat, lol!
Sorry, but the new Quest 3s/128Gb at $299 makes no sense to me and really looks like Meta is just trying to get rid of old Q2 bits (128Gb storage/lens/screens). I think it would have made more sense to just revise the Q3 lineup to include 128Gb for $399, 256Gb for $499, and 512Gb for $599. I guess we'll see how well the Q3s sells during this Xmas period. As is, there's no way I'd recommend buying one, and/or upgrading from a Q2. I just hope that Meta comes out with more sensible Quest 4/4s options in the near future (2026?), say with and without eye tracking.
Anyway, just my initial opinions.

It's basically a Quest 3 CPU/GPU, colour cameras and controllers with the optics of the Quest 2 (same res, fov, 3 position IPD and lenses).
So not much use to me, but I think it would be an ok headset for new people.

I'm in a similar boat to you folks. I like the new prices but I wish I was able to take advantage of them 😅
It does seem like a decently better entry point than Quest 2, albeit with a price increase to match, but Quest 3 is definitely still going to be my recommendation to new users. Long live the pancakes 🫡🥞

Agreed, for people who haven’t tried pancakes, they won’t mind fresnels, like we didn’t with all the older headsets, so price/performance is king.
But the switch to pancakes really is a big deal and the biggest uplift in visuals that came with the Quest 3 and Pro in my opinion.
The Batman Arkham Shadow inclusion adds the usual sweetener to the deals. I’m not seeing a price or pre-order option for that game yet for existing users.

I just can't understand why they aren't adding micro SD slots to the headset to store the games on. Users can then upgrade the memory at a later date if they need to.

Maybe that's the reason, why they DON'T do it.

Ya, I agree that this has been a long time coming. In fact, my preordered Vive Focus Vision headset comes with 128Gb but also has a micro SD slot that supports up to 2Tb (2,000Gb). I mean even a 512Gb micro SD cost less than us$40 (~au$60).
I think Meta's argument in the past has been that the data transfer rates of usb cards were not fast enough. Now days I think that most micro sd cards are +100Mb/s. So, if you already have faster on-board memory (say 128Gb) then maybe this would only effect loading times. Really not sure about all that = above my pay grade, lol!
