Now then folks!
With the leaked Quest 3 charging dock does anyone know if they are compatible with the Quest Pro controllers?
They seem to have the same 3 pin charging port on the sides

I've been wondering the same thing and it would make a lot of sense to use the same design charging dock but it looks like the docks will be different.
I can't remember seeing a pic of any pins on the controllers, all the rumour shots I've seen seem to imply swappable AA batteries and that's it. My guess is that as per the current Quest 2 controllers, users use their current batteries/chargers.
The headset though does have pins but that doesn't look like it would fit in the Pro dock either, the pics I've seen have a group of contact pads in the Q3 headset in one place whereas the Pro has 2 pairs of pins, 2 on either side. The Pro dock has a very specific moulded recess that perfectly fits the headset, the Q3 is a different shape so I'm pretty sure it'll have a dock that is moulded to its shape.
The question would be, what happens for Quest 3 owners who buy the Pro controllers? the controllers come with a controller dock, so I suppose those people would end up with 2 docks, one for headset and one for controllers... unless there's going to be a Q3/Pro controller single dock accessory... probably not much demand.
Maybe there'll be a Quest 3 with Pro controller bundle as an option, then it would make more sense to have a single combined dock in the package?

I'm not sure where I've got the 3 pin thing from now I try and dig up a picture. I really hope there isn't a new Quest Pro controller due out as I've just dropped the cash (and got over most teething issues!)
Yeah I certainly doubt there being a Quest 3 plus Pro controller all in one dock. Especially since people buying a quest 3 with Pro controllers and a dock are spending nearly a grand!

I just saw your hype thread with the pic of the combined Q3/controller dock and now I'm questioning myself about the controller charging situation!
I have a suspicion that the Q3 controllers are just being stored on that dock, not charged but I could be wrong.
If they're being charged and they use standard AA rechargeable, then there would need to be some neat induction charging setup, or there needs to be pins somewhere on the handles (I've not seen those pins) and I would guess Meta-supplied rechargeable batteries to mitigate the user sticking in something that isn't!
Given that the current non-Pro controller batteries last for 35 hours (by my tests) I'm not convinced that the cost of providing induction charging within the dock (for regular charging) is worthwhile but like I say, I could be totally wrong there!

I think I've managed to find the source of my info
There was a leaked FCC approval for that dock stating it has 2 wireless charging controllers as well as a headset with 3pin charging here's the article https://www.uploadvr.com/unannounced-quest-3-charging-dock/
So perhaps it's QI charging compatible, would be another reason that the headset has had a fair price bump this generation

I need to read up more on these rumours! thanks for the confirmation @J40NYR
Yeah, stuff like that adds to the cost so kudos to Meta if that's what they're doing. I mean it's a neat solution and if I was the engineer, I may have done the same... the cost engineers probably had a grumble over this though!
Anyway, apologies, your original question makes perfect sense...
So looking at the Pro controllers, the charging pads are at the inner 90deg position on the heads and those are facing away from the supports on that rumoured Q3 dock, so as it is, the Pro controllers wouldn't charge (if the supports had pins in addition to wireless).

Another little dock seems to have sprung up! Perhaps both these docks come with a rechargeable battery replacement. These certainly would not charge the pro controllers, really hope the pro controllers haven't been lost to the past

Wow actually I am digging this one it makes it easier to place them!
