Question about DVI to hdmi adapter with oculus headset

If I bought a dvi to hdmi adapter for the oculus headset, would I have to plug the dvi end into the gpu or would I be able to plug it into the motherboard? Also would it function the same as if it was plugged into the gpu? I'm only asking because my 144hz monitor is plugged into the dvi port for my gpu.

You need to use the ports of the GPU and NOT the motherboard. HDMI is preferred for Rift, though DVI and DisplayPort can work with adapters.

You make it sound like you only have one DVI and no HDMI on your GPU. What model is it? You'd likely be better off with a DisplayPort to HDMI converter (particularly if your DVI port doesn't do audio, many don't)

Yes DVI doesn't do audio. It never did. But the Rift doesn't use HDMI audio anyway.

Rift uses USB audio, so it's not a problem for VR. However, DVI with an adapter can transmit audio. I've used it before, for example on a TV or a projector, with a DVI to HDMI adapter, and it works. However, I think this behavior is outside the standard and may not work on all video card models or brands.
