Question for Cyberreality Regarding Recent Email communication - (Delay confirmation)

@cybereality - Firslty can i say a MASSIVE - Thank you!! to the people at Oculus and Palmer for the generous gesture of good will regarding the waiving of shipping, and finally communicating an issue and delay. (can finally stop me spamming F5 like crazy and trying to dig out any information i can)

With that said however, i do have a question regarding the language used and the implication of the information.

"Although many Rifts will be arriving on schedule and in line with
original estimates, we'll be covering shipping and handling costs for

all orders placed through today."

what / who exactly does this cover?

  1. If my order is not processed and shipped till, arguments sake, the 12th - does that mean i still pay for shipping - as its not "today"?
  2. Does it cover anyone who has received this email?
  3. Cover anyone who is delayed, had an expired estimated shipping time - ie march?
  4. Everyone that has pre-ordered up until today; that hasn't been shipped yet - regardless of estimated shipping gate?

Just trying to understand where the line is drawn.

Would really appreciate some information further to this.

Finally once again - i truly appreciate the gesture of good will, and the ability to finally be open regarding the delay (im sure people wanted to be able to from the start, but due to some form of red tape did not enable the freedom of speech)

Warmest regards

A customer that's finally put at ease!

Correct. We apologize for not updating you earlier. The first few batches are going out slower than we estimated, so we're giving free shipping for all pre-orders, including international.

I am really happy with this. Delays due to shortages can't be helped no one wants them least of all oculus who are going head to head with the biggest powerhouse in PC gaming...... Steam!.

The free shipping is a nice touch and could well keep a few on the fence from jumping ship.

That being said.. Maybe it is an Americanism however to me we'll be covering shipping and handling costs for all orders placed through today is terrible English!.

I am guessing they mean all orders placed from the start through TO today.... However what it literally means is shipping is free on orders for today only which is surely not what they mean 😉

I'm happy to see an english native finding the wording weird to say the least, so it's not only me and the nasty language barrier.

I could not believe the free shipping just for a delay. But if Brendan says it...

Well, they know something had gone wrong, they know customer will get upset, and they htc are theyr competitor and they probably wont have those problem,  soo to avoid ppl saying "fxxk off i'm buying a vive!" the just removed the expedition costs.
I don't think is a huge "dent" in theyr wallet but still, is a lesser deep wound in ours  🙂

Maybe not a huge dent, but a considerable one.

Let's be massively conservative and say they only have 50k pre-orders. And for simplicity, that everyone was paying $30 for shipping. That's $1.5 million.

General opinion is that they have 200k+ pre-orders... and many people outside the USA were paying upwards of $100 for shipping. I reckon this could easily cost them $10 million.

Hehe yeah, $10 million may not be all that much if you're a billionaire, but it's still a noticeable amount.

How the hell are some people having a hard time understanding that email????? It says in plain English that if you ordered and have not received your Rift before yesterday (4-1-16) that Oculus will pay for your shipping. That's great

Yeah, it's pretty good 🙂 Oculus are also refunding the shipping of any pre-orders who have already received their Rift.
