@cybereality - Firslty can i say a MASSIVE - Thank you!! to the people at Oculus and Palmer for the generous gesture of good will regarding the waiving of shipping, and finally communicating an issue and delay. (can finally stop me spamming F5 like crazy and trying to dig out any information i can)
With that said however, i do have a question regarding the language used and the implication of the information.
"Although many Rifts will be arriving on schedule and in line with original estimates, we'll be covering shipping and handling costs for all orders placed through today."
what / who exactly does this cover?
If my order is not processed and shipped till, arguments sake, the 12th - does that mean i still pay for shipping - as its not "today"?
Does it cover anyone who has received this email?
Cover anyone who is delayed, had an expired estimated shipping time - ie march?
Everyone that has pre-ordered up until today; that hasn't been shipped yet - regardless of estimated shipping gate?
Just trying to understand where the line is drawn.
Would really appreciate some information further to this.
Finally once again - i truly appreciate the gesture of good will, and the ability to finally be open regarding the delay (im sure people wanted to be able to from the start, but due to some form of red tape did not enable the freedom of speech)

As I understand it everyone who has placed an order since pre-orders started up until today will not have to pay shipping. Hence why pretty much everyone is reporting shipping costs disappearing from their order page.

I got the email, australian order, april estimate, 31 range order number.
However I also got the email over half an hour after others on here got it. Emails aren't instant, they can take time to propagate around the world. Plus Oculus might need to be doing extra work to do this, some people had their shipping reduced (for example $30 to around $2.??) instead of set to zero, so there may be legal issues they need to deal with on a per region basis. That could delay emails.

It's easy, if someone went on the website and ordered today or whenever during the night the email was received, you get free shipping...If you order tomorrow...no free shipping

If the shipping is zero, then the price "does not include shipping". 🙂
