I need you expertise. I had a question about the Oculus Rift and was wondering if someone can answer these questions.

4. Does the company invest a lot in the development and improvement of the OR? If so, how much do you think they invest? I would think so, because the product has to be perfect.

I hope to get some feedback on these question. I'm very interested in the responses i will receive. :?:

Let's talk about perfection for a second:
If you're getting chased by a bear, to survive you don't have to outrun the bear. You only have to run faster than the guy next to you.
For Oculus to succeed, they don't have to invent perfect VR. They only need to invent better VR than their competitors.

Facebook bought Oculus for 2.1 billion dollars. That's a sizeable investment right there.
Not a Rift fanboi. Not a Vive fanboi. I'm a VR fanboi. Get it straight.

Your example is funny, and you are right. They do have to be better than their competitors in my opinion. However the question is, is that the case for Oculus?
I mean, the fact facebook took them over does not necessarily mean that they are better than the competition.
And also, they can invest alot in R&D, in order to make the technology seem as real as possible. But how come was it unsuccessful before Facebook took it over? They also invested billions then.

We wont know if the Rift is better or worse than the competition until VR manufacturers have product in the consumer market. Ask this question again in about a year.

True, but Facebook didn't get to where it is now by making poor investment decisions. Besides, at that time, Oculus was already well funded with their Kickstarter campaign and had already sold 70,000 developer kits. That's 70,000 more units than all their competitors combined, even to this day, where the total estimated number of sold units is now over 100,000. 😉

Oculus R&D was very successful before the Facebook purchase. Oculus produced the DK1 and DK2 without the help of Facebook money. The DK2 technology is getting old, but it's still being used by over a hundred thousand people (estimated), and still selling!

I can only imagine what the Oculus Rift consumer VR will be like. Reviews show that it's many generations better than the DK2. We'll all know the truth Springtime, next year.
