RIFT, VIVE and PSVR head 2 head

TLDR

so VIVE in 1st place, rift a (subjective) shade behind and then PSVR a distant 3rd.

I had pretty much decided to not bother with touch, enjoy my rift this generation and then jump ship to vive next gen when they had sorted out their erganomics a bit more, however IF that article is true, then i may yet buy a touch and fully commit to the oculus eco system. i will need to play with the touch 1st however because TBH i just cant see how it can track as well as what those guys were saying.

They preferred vive due to its chaperone system and the built in camera, nothing can be done oculus wise on the camera however, however, unless i am mistaken, valve have said chaperone will be fully in place for the CV1 as well, so that is good news

other problem they flag with the rift is it is not as comfortable as vive (or psvr) if you wear glasses
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR 🙂

When 10,000 people have tried them for about 12 months, then we'll know.
Big PC, all the headsets, now using Quest 3

As I understand it, you have to install a different rubbery face thingy if you want to use the CV1 with glasses? So they presumably wouldn't have had that installed.

It´s pretty much a wash according to the review, but he said nothing about display differences or ergonomics. He did say that the rift´s tracking worked perfectly though and that is good news.

It does seem they were missing the facial interfaces which sorts the glasses issue and the distance issue, but overall some good insights there and it doesn't seem bias as such they just don't have the full picture which is fair enough.

As above there isn't much mention of screens/optics which other non valve funded reviews have favoured the Rift.

I'd like to have Vive with Rift's ergonomics. But unfortunately neither of them has eye tracking. So both miss the essential feature. No eye-tracking to reduce the PC cost = not enough AAA games.
Happy ping-ponging everyone! Gonna buy a fine projector instead:)

Seems like a decent review.

Despite being fair, this article surprised me a little.
His facts and basic understanding of these systems seemed accurate.

He did stray from other opinions I've read in a few key areas:

1. He raved about the Rift launch lineup.
2. He said Touch is only a tiny bit better than Wands
3. Glasses were a problem
4. He didn't seem to see much difference between the DAC/Integrated audio and Vive earbuds, aside from convenience.

It's starting to look like these two systems will be VERY similar in October. Rift will get Touch, and Steam should have a full library. Hopefully PSVR gets better controllers because this is the second or third review I've read where they trash the PS Move.

Everyone who owned PS Move know that they are crap, I used to have a PS3 with the Move. Back then, there was this fighting game, called The Fight if I remember correctly...worst motion control ever...then the Move disappeared into oblivion. The PS4 camera is suppose to be better at tracking the Move, but the Move made such a bad name for itself, I can't understand why they didn't supply something new....I guess they want to clear out some Move stock...

I don't have a PS4 and personally dislike console gaming. However I wish Sony would step up their game on the motion tracking. The unfortunate truth is that a large majority of people will be exposed to VR gaming the first time on a PS4. The last thing the industry needs is the Tech to be "gimmicky".

Everyone got excited about 3D movies after watching Avatar at the IMAX. Once 3D TVs started to come out the industry "including sony" rushed crappy content to the masses. Anyone see Clash of the Titans??

Want to buy a 3D movie? $30 for the actual movie you want, get a bonus bluray non 3D copy...ok ....a DVD copy??? WTF....Digital copy disc??....

3D became a gimmick and did not sell well

My point is Companies like Sony tend to jump on the bandwagon and milk every cent out of the consumer when new tech comes around.

It is not just Sony...look at the ridiculous price NVIDIA charges for 3d Vision.
I can totally see NVIDIA trying charge $40 to access VR SLI

VR needs to be done right or not at all, Oculus and Vive seem to be going in the right direction Sony PSVR seems like miking the Hype

More like 1 week.

Within 3 days of use I will know all the flaws of the CV1.
