Ray Tracing on an AMD Vega 56

bodes well i think for raytracing... and will work on all modern gpus not just limited to RTX.  hopefully all game engines will get it but for now cryengine only.

but that running real time on a vega 56 looks fabulous imo...... i hope it gets support and in vr titles too.

Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR 🙂

That is pretty excellent!

That is just reflections for now though. RTX still allows for things like physically based shadows, refraction, and global illumination (GI)
Core i7-7700k @ 4.9 Ghz | 32 GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance @ 3000Mhz | 2x 1TB Samsung Evo | 2x 4GB WD Black
ASUS MAXIMUS IX HERO | MSI AERO GTX 1080 OC @ 2000Mhz | Corsair Carbide Series 400C White (RGB FTW!)

Be kind to one another 🙂

Yea, there is still a reason why NV added those RTX cores. AMD might be able to pull off some level of RT - but the gambit of the API still would highly benefit from a hardware acceleration.

Though I think for now - GI could still be fake well enough to get around with current methods while we focus more on trying to get reflections and physically base shadows working first. Granted - that is harder done without GI. Refraction can be put on hold for a while - but I could think of a few cool ideas game design wise for it - if it was design around using that instead.
