Ready Player One Film - Good for VR Adoption?

As we enter the final weeks before the big release of this pivotal VR master work from Steven Spielberg - we have to wonder if we may be at the "Lawnmower Man" moment for the current adoption and public acceptance of VR - what is the consensus from the posters?

[Context - this is a poll about the impact of the movie on the VR scene, attempts to derail or bully will not be accepted.]

I think it will be great for VR, cannot wait to see it.

Also

I'm confused by the options... You're asking for an answer using a question to a question, this would sound better:

The film will be good for VR in general
The film will be good for VR but just the consumer sales
The film be detrimental to the perception of what VR can achieve now

Wanted to keep it general, so people explain what they were voting on as part of the discussion... as you did 🙂

After watching this video, I'm pretty sure we are on the right track for a Ready Player One future (minus the dystopia hopefully)

Well - Ready Player One..........To say I was Totally unimpressed after seeing the movie is an understatement. Ive read the book around a dozen times and imo its a great book. speilberg hasn't made it into a great movie tho - hes taken bits out of  the book juggled them around and totally screwed up what was a great story.
Just at the beginning of the story he turns what was the major start point of Wade Watts finding the 1st key into some sorta weird car race which is so out of context with the book it ruins the whole movie. Somehow in the movie he meets the heroine in real life a little way in and who. for some reason has acquired a lackey who does her bidding and who also kidnaps Wade to meet her. In the book the hook is Wade doesn't meet her till the Very end of the Story (in real life)
So without giving away any more My opinion is Read the book an Forget the movie which is one of speilbergs Worst!!!

Thanks for this @xWandererx
Yes, had heard that the term "underwhelming" was being thrown around by a lot of the first viewers that were able to honestly talk about the experience. This will obviously be difficult - the VR "Fan-atics" will attack anyone that does not think this is amazing!, while at the same time, the general public will come out and wonder what all the fuss was about. Anyway, lets wait and see.

I'm hoping the film does well enough that Netflix decides to adapt Snow Crash :).
