So as the titles says, I'm here to express my opinion, and likely a wide majority's opinion, about the 'recent' addition of the referral system.
It isn't 'recent' technically, yet when I bought my quest back in 2021, 64gb for that matter, there was no such thing. Now this referral system will give new users who have yet to set up their new quest 2's 30 euro/35 dollars/whatever in ur currency. It's not right for us 'early adopters' to suffer without benefit, and I need to know if compensation will ever be considered. If any Meta employee or mod is reading this, please do respond. I feel quite scammed, it isn't enough to get the pitchforks out for, but it's enough to feel like my product I bought was less valuable.
Now I know for a time Meta gave out silicone faceplates for those who bought the 64gb version when the switch was announced, and I tried back then to get one. But that doesn't make up for anything to be quite honest.
Thanks for reading, be sure to share your opinion down below.

It's a tricky one. Did you feel tricked into buying the headset at the time, or have you been enjoying it for longer than people who bought in later, perhaps as the result of an incentive as demand started to die down?
Do you feel the same way about everything else you buy that subsequently changes in price? The Quest headsets went up in price by $100 a couple of years ago - do you think you should have been expected to pay more at that time? Sorry to sound fatuous but all those people who suddenly did pay more might like to see it that way.

I bought the Quest Pro at launch, 5 or 6 months before the price dropped. I spent maybe 200-250 hours with it during those 'early adaptor' months. I'd only feel ripped off if I hadn't been enjoying it... but honestly, it's been great and still is, so I don't feel ripped off at all (and that price drop was £500 if it makes you feel any better 😉).
The referral program is great but I don't think $30 compares to the value you've had prior to that being introduced... unless you haven't had fun during that time??
Plus, us early adaptors aren't excluded from the referral program, we can benefit by referring someone we know to buy a headset, we've just missed out on being the referee. If I hadn't given away my Q2, I'd probably have 1 referral under my belt but such is life, maybe that's why I'm not a rich man... but I'm having fun 🙂

That's a good way to look at it haha, and I have had fun it's true. Thanks for the different perspective!

That's very true, and I didn't think to consider all of the price increases that had happened in the years prior. Again, thanks for the change of perspective, or rather putting it into perspective. It's true that others would have likely felt ripped off just as much as us 64gb buyers.
