The Virtual Boy was not a head-mounted display. It had a stand.

50,000 units.... I ask the question: Does that mean the DK1 is the most successful VR device that has been produced and put on the market? I can easily imagine so.
@EarlGrey[Hot]... yeah I have a problem!
Great point - 50,000 units must be a record. Virtuality combined did nothing close, and NVIS (both nVision and NVID) have not even broke multiple thousands!!!
Candle on the Cake - well done Oculus VR!
On a side, the most successful (units sold) immersive virtual world device would be:
1. Haptic feedback (steering wheel = 1,100,000+)
2. Capsule simulator (tank trainer = 100,000+)
3. CAVE (projector rooms* = 70,000+)
4. Oculus Rift (HMD = 50,000+)
5. Sim-NightGlass (Eyeware = 15,000+)
5.....?
*=I include dome systems
