Got my Rift last Wednesday and absolutely love it!
I am looking for a few items for some preventative maintenance.
Lens Protectors. Is this a thing? I would hate to scratch the lenses on my new HMD.
Lens Cleaners. The package says to only use the included microfiber- but I am wondering that is true? I don't feel like it does a good job cleaning, tbh. My wife put it on and accidentally bumped a lens against her forehead. I felt like the microfiber was just smudging around the skin oil instead of actually cleaning it. Will any lens cleaner with alcohol work, or no?
Closed off cover. Is there a cover I can buy to seal off the cavity that goes against your face? It seems like dust wants to settle in there. Rather than just cover it with a cloth, I was wondering if there was something that was made to snap on/cover the rift?
I just want to take good care of it, especially the lenses.
Do not use alcohol based cleaner on the lenses! If anything, dampen the included cloth with distilled water. Alcohol can fog plastic lenses and ruin your Rift.
I believe some posted this already on the forums and that it was recommended by oculus staff or some other people that worked w/ the hmd (don't quote me on this)
What about the rubbery material that rests on your face? I just wipe it with a dry towel but since I let so many family and friends try this, I want to use something with a bit more "cleanser" in mind; without damaging anything.
Wipe down the exterior parts of the headset with a dry cloth to clean off dirt.
Use non-abrasive anti-bacterial wipes to gently clean the facial interface foam and straps to eliminate sweat and odor from settling in. Do not use alcohol or any abrasive cleaning solution.
Clean the foam after every use and allow it to dry completely before using the Rift again.
Avoid applying facial skincare products (make-up, lotion, topical cream, etc.) before using Rift."
Using antibacterial wipes after each use makes it like new. Especially around the nose area, it eliminates all bacteria that causes smell.
