Rift Stuttering

So went in to play some Rift yesterday for the first time in a while and suddenly noticed that in the Home screen, when I turn my head right or left, there's a pretty noticeable stuttering effect of the image. It also happens when moving my head up or down, but not as much. I repositioned and reset all of the 3 cameras and went through the entire setup process multiple times and the same thing is happening. I read elsewhere that MSI Afterburner could be causing the issues so I uninstalled that and no change. I tried playing a few games and the same thing. Noticeable stutter when moving my head. I have an Nvidia gtx1080. Could this be an issue with their latest driver release? It really makes the Rift almost unplayable.

This can also be caused by Asus Ai Suite or Asus Sonic Suite, which need to be uninstalled. Other overlay / screen recording apps can cause conflicts as well, notably F.lux and TeamViewer.

Hmmm...I don't  have any of those programs. Could the Nvidia driver be the problem?

I am running Nvidia driver 388.13 with no issue. I do use Precision XOC for my GPU monitoring, however I had read that with the Power being monitored can cause stutters with these drivers. So I disabled the power monitoring when I installed the drivers and seem to be working well.

I see you already uninstalled Afterburner though, be sure and delete the files left over and reboot the pc as well.
If you need AB running you could also try disabling Power monitoring and see if that helps.

I'm also using a gtx1080 and have the same problem I think. When I move my head it'll stutter for a brief second before continuing normally. For me it's not a constant stutter, just an occasional annoying immersion breaking hiccup. I just uninstalled Asus Sonic Suite so I'm hoping that'll fix it for me.

I have read about people having a stuttering problem, they rolled back their nvidia driver by a couple of revisions and the stutter stopped. My stutter was fixed by disabling power % monitoring on the graph in Afterburner.

I can without a doubt confirm that 1.20’s full release fixed 85% of my poor Rift performance.  I still have very minimal spikes of frame drops when things are loading but the judder, and most of the constant erratic stutter is gone!  Every game had that after the 1.17 update, but someone figured it out maybe by mistake, or on the sligh in this update? Either way I’d love to buy that person a beer. Thank you GOD! I can finally get back to getting lost in my games again.
Nvidia GTX 1080. 388.00 update. Almost perfect performance now. FTW!!!

Still getting minimal sway with the gaurdian grid, but I’m not complaining!

I’d like to revise my findings a bit. After testing a few other games I haven’t played in a bit I found I’m getting a bit of stuttering. About a 78% improvement. This update could definitely be optimized a bit further. It’s still leaps and bounds better than it was, but I wanted to share that it is still happening a bit. I’m still happier than I was for sure.  Whatever they did they are on the right track.  Hopefully another update can come out soon to fix all of it. Thanks for replying cybereality!
