Did you mean:

Rift, The Rift, F**k**g Oculus Rift

Anonymous
Not applicable
Whatever you call it, the powers that be want you to call it "Rift", personally I see that as a bit of an uphill struggle ( Oculus does seem to like to make life difficult for itself though) or like King Canute trying to hold back the tide..

Does anybody, sensible, refer to the Rift as anything other than "the Rift" ?

'I'm going to the bog'... or maybe it should be 'I'm going to the fucking bog'... or...

Who gives a shit?

This forum is now populated by a bunch of gossiping old women.

It's just like how I refer to the Xbox One as:

Xbox One, Xbone, Bone, X1, Xbox Wii60.
You still know what I'm talking about.

You mean your microsoft?

I've done a couple of posts today after reading this thread and have referred to the HMD as "Rift".  I guess it's more based on sentence structure then actual naming.  I bought a "the Rift" from Best Buy doesn't work.  I bought the Rift from Best Buy. is proper but "the" is not in the name of the device.  Or did I miss the point of this.

@Cybereality

You only call it "The Oculus" because if you say Rift in your office people think you are talking about the growing thing between the company and the community.  /ZING.   I jest! I jest!

I wouldn't still be here, waiting on a pre-order, Cancelling a Vive pre-order if I was a hater.  Just like causing a little trouble every now and then.

But Seriously, tell Palmer to chill with the PR for a while.  Next "Good News Tweet" should be "All Kickstarter backers and Pre-Ordered orders have been filled!"

Most people haven't heard of Oculus or Rift TBH,

My street cred with my teenage nephews just went up about a thousand points.  They've certainly heard of it

After I first got the DK2 a colleagues street cred went sky high with her own kids just for working with someone with a rift. lol

"Google it" then "grab a Kleenex" ... do you also have a problem with these phrases?

Similarly, "see you in the Rift" will probably come to mean Oculus' VR chat room... also support by "the HTC"... leading to the term "facepalm" to mean "go stick your head up your arse" ("arse" meaning VR or "non-reality")... I dunno...

I thought it was pronounced "Grift" (the G is silent).

I think that 'Rift' is a slang term we use in the VR community, but the actual term when telling someone about it should be "Oculus Rift", so they know what the product is. Rift is also a word itself, unlike Xbox so they might not get the context.
Facebook bought Instagram. How exactly did they ruin them?

It's also being used as a verb, isn't it?
"I'm rifting tonight", "too tired to rift, going to bed", "you out-rifted me", etc. 😄
