I was hoping a joke...but apparently they are serious. Dawg, there is no way I could even think of playing Rockband in VR. Standing up, wild head motions, strobe lights, tryna rock out. People are going to be falling out with epileptic seizures. Absolute FAIL on their part!!

Sidenote: Did you get a glimpse of those graphics???? UGH....Guitar Hero Live set the bar as far as LIVE graphics, and they don't even come close. Worst game they could have revealed for the launch of the Oculus!! I was disappointed, I stay cheering Oculus on, but they let me down with that one.

I thought it was cool. Who doesn't want to pretend to be a rock star?

Seems gimmicky and not the kind of game suited to VR, but then this kind of game doesn't appeal to me anyway. I'm trying to picture someone flailing around with the guitar prop and a HMD on. Not a pretty sight  I'm sure I'd rather use a big screen TV for this one. But who knows it may appeal to people. Oculus seems to be keen on getting established IPs on the Rift. What's next, Star Wars? Super Mario VR? Have they convinced Reggie that VR could be fun?

I thought it's a good idea for VR.

Avoids the motion sickness problem associated with moving plus the ambience and surroundings should be pretty awesome.
I haven't seen the vid so graphics wise I'm not too sure but I think you'll get to feel like you are on stage. Dark setting and flashing lights (I'm guessing) makes stuff more realistic imo, since it helps to hide visual stuff that breaks the illusion of presence.

Edit: Just checked out the video with a short glimpse of the in game graphics demo and please ignore the paragraph above.
But hey, at least it's a different genre from the standard horror / fps / racing / flight

I didn't know about this either until about 10 minutes ago. I think it sounds pretty cool too. I used to play Guitar Hero a lot and I always had two ways of playing. The first was basically trying to get achievement with harder levels and harder songs. That requires a bunch of concentration. The second was when I would basically kick back, set the difficulty level down a notch, drink a six pack, and jam out. That was all about musical experience and was equally fun to me. This is the type of thing that I think VR would enhance. Having all the musical aura combined with a choreographed light show and the spectacle of a large arena. Sounds awesome to me!

A side note to all the rock stars ... playing really fast is not music.

Well it certainly demonstrates how much you can't judge VR by it's cover : The video looks ugly and is unable to convey the slightest amount of intense immersive emotion the VR product must have.

But a dance simulator might have hit a broader target audience : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oo2CbxaOyMc
