Is this for real or a joke?

Soooooo.... those are Touch controllers on the ends of the guitars right?
does that mean Touch is more likely to be available at launch?

I'm trying to look for the positives here!

Why would someone play "Rockband" when you could get a real guitar and "Rocksmith" and really learn how to play for real.

I might have been excited for "Rocksmith".

Rockband needs to be burnt with fire.

My brother is pushing sixty and LOVES playing Rockband with his family. He's purchased every single song one can possibly buy. I can easily see him buying Rockband VR on the Rift...if he owned an XBox. He's a PS4 gamer so if Morpheus offers the same thing he might jump all over it. Even so, I'm betting he'd have to start from scratch, rebuying all his favorite songs in VR format. Hundreds of dollars worth of content and hours upon hours of download time.

Edit - Just learned that this will be another Oculus exclusive. And this broadens the VR industry how exactly? Oculus has basically guaranteed that they will never sell this VR product to a very large portion of the console market. Look, I get that Oculus has investment in this game and they want to monopolize the ROI as much as possible, but console exclusivity for this title is a throat cutting maneuver for Oculus. Oculus isn't Bungie and Rockband isn't Halo, but most importantly, VR isn't supposed to be exclusive!

Edit v.2 - How will this work out for multiplayer in the same room? Did no one think this through or will we be able to use four Rifts on one PC? That would be amazing if true.

Edit v.3 - I want to correct myself here after reading a recent Reddit post from Palmer regarding the term "exclusive". It's currently an Oculus exclusive, but not necessarily a Rift exclusive. This means that if another HMD manufacturer wants to step up and work out a deal with Harmonix to release Rock Band they are allowed to do so.
Not a Rift fanboi. Not a Vive fanboi. I'm a VR fanboi. Get it straight.

Vizionvr, zuck can offer to give away 50 billion, throw 1 billion away on palmy (and many recent comments at reddit says palmer announcements are for sht now, specially after this rockband reveal, and he isn't getting them hyped anymore, so zuck blew that billion on useless marketing boy) But zuck can't give cyber a promotion. And many think he is worried about making a few 10 thousands in profit on rockband exclusives when he could have made it work for cardboard, vive, psvr, etc and grew the whole damn ecosystem for everyone? It doesn't make sense, the math does not add up. As much as zuck disgusts me I think he would have thrown the tiny little profit to the wind to help grow the sector if it wasn't for iribe. This exclusivity move has iribes fingerprints all over. At some point zuck will have to fire iribe for gross mismanagement with stupid decisions like this. They had the guitar hero guy, mccauley, and he left in disgust when he saw how bad iribe was going to screw this guitar thing up. After iribe is deep sixed, I bet oculus gets back to the roots we all loved in the old days, exclusives for meager profit will not b job 1 anymore (like zuck needs it) and cyber will get his raise/promotion. Eff iribe. Hell mccauley might come back and chen too if they fire iribe, that man is a cancer on the whole industry.

Rocksmith VR would be pretty difficult as you usually need to see your hands/fingers and strings in great clarity.

I'm not surprised to see such an announcement from Oculus. They're really desperate to get that casual crowd...

I'm mostly surprised that the Rockband devs think Rift is a better platform than PSVR where most of their users will naturally go.

Absolutely underwhelming. I don´t know how anyone can see this as a big seller. Why haven´t we still not seen a single AAA title connected to oculus? Where are the big studios?

I think guitar hero is not very exciting, and this stuff is borderline ridiculous.

They have 2 gazillion dollars, if i was Palmer i would build 1 16 k vr glass only for myself and give the finger to all of you annoying customers.

Rock Band was enormously popular, no reason this won't have broad appeal. Being on stage in front of a crowd is a powerful experience, and most people never work up the courage to do it except in front of parents in elementary school.

As for seeing your fingers, I would agree if this were Rocksmith VR, but in Rock Band you really don't need to see, there are only 5 buttons and you need to watch the note chart. Having the neck of the guitar in your peripheral vision should be enough for good hand-eye coordination. It is strange they didn't show the notes in the trailer though, the way that gets presented in VR is going to be important.
