Running Ocular Rift in Linux with Nvidia server

I am currently running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with 64 bit and 23 GB memory. The graphic card is GeForce GTX 560 ti with dual DVI-I and Mini-HDMI outputs. On the computer I am running stereo view for VR1280 Head Mounted Display in Linux with Nvidia Server. But since I got display problems with VR1280 I would like to change to other Head Mounted Displays for linux.

I would like to know how compatible it is to run Ocular Rift in Linux with Nvidia x server?

What versions of Ubuntu is compatible with Ocular Rift and what versions of Nvidia x server is compatible with Ocular Rift?

Do I need to set the resolution to 1920x1080 before running the Ocular Rift?

Or do I need to configure Nvidia x server config file to recognise Ocular Rift in the right resolution and updating frequency?

Is it important to set the Ocular Rift on the right resolution could it damage the goggles?

I am wondering if there is any software development kit for Ocular Rift in linux in C++? Could I use it to gather data when tilting the head at different angles from an accerelometer in Ocular Rift?

Thanks
Martti

The Rift runs on Linux, independent on the kind of GPU. Note, that you do *not* want to set the DK1 to 1920*1080 (but the DK2) as the DK1 can stop to report tracking data if you do (this only happen on Linux btw). The SDK is online on this website.

Thanks for your fast response.

So is it easy to run Ocular Rift DK2 in Linux Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with resolution 1920x1080 and Nvidia x server version 310.32 with HDMI output? So is it possible to get tilting track data with Ocular Rift DK2 at resolution 1920x1080 when tilting the head on different directions with software development kit in C++?

I don't have a DK2 yet, but the DK1 with the latest SDK works with no problems on Debian with an NVIDIA, Ubuntu shouldn't be a problem as well. The tracker is a USB HID device, the screen is just one external monitor (configurable via nvidia-settings). Positional and orientational tracking with DK2 works in all directions.

Yeah, and it's OCULUS Rift.
