Ryzen for VR?

Anyone else close to upgrading to Ryzen? I know the thing to do is to wait until real world benchmarks are out but the multi-core results look good so far.

On my x5650 Hex core @ 4Ghz I see all my cores being utilized at up to 85% on some so not yet maxed out. Purely single threaded performance, at least for the games I'm playing isn't the priority it seems.

I wonder if I'd still get the "Your computer doesn't meet Rift's recommended specifications". or how long would it take for Oculus to accept it's ok

i wont need to update my pc for some years (heavily overclocked 6 core i7) but if i was in the market, Ryzen is looking very interesting. I still want to see more non biased benchamarks but right now it is looking like its going to wake up intel, which is great.

I reckon a lot of sandy bridge era PC owners will be looking at Ryzen VERY closely.
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR 🙂

I have a 3570k and the R7 1700 looks very tempting.

As it is I do a lot of video/photo editing so the gains there will be massive, as for gaming it certainly won't get worse.

I've seen this rodeo before...  AaaaaaaAthlon! <cough, cough>

By the time I need to upgrade (couple years from now), I'm sure Intel will have poor AMD beat once again.  Think I'll wait.

the clawhammer/opteron A64 blew intel out of the water and it took a little while for them to recover.

when they did however, AMD have not really competed since (core2duo hit back hard eventually, then the Q6600 and then after sandybridge it was game over.

its been a long time coming but i really think AMD could be back in the game.

My understanding is that GPUs are the biggest bottleneck these days?  I don't know about you, but my CPU upgrade cycle has substantially lengthened over the past 5 years for most activities.  But I'm not a graphics artist or genome sequencing or anything.  Just business and gaming.

Yeah, Ryzen 1800x would be pretty badass. But I'm still good with my i7 4770k. The new GPU "Vega" comes with HBM2, will be interesting too, but I'm still good with my GTX 1080.

Intel maybe beat AMD, but the pricetag of the Ryzen CPU is very nice. The 8 Cores from Intel cost over 100 % more than the 1800x, which offers 8 cores too. Very good move from AMD.

Hopefully AMD beat Intel & Nvidia this year. Intel and Nvidia are pretty expensive and AMD could change that this year. AMD said, they want a 4K Gaming Rig for customers for about 1000 $. Try that with Intel and Nvidia.

I bought one (the 1800X). I'm still not 100% sure where I'll put this computer yet (my apartment is pretty small and I have a few computers already) but I just couldn't bear to miss out on the action. I imagine they will work great in VR seeing the benchmarks against Intel, but I'm sure we will know more as people test in the coming weeks.

I keep adding a 1700x, a Gigabyte GA-AX370-Gaming K7 motherboard, and some DDR4 to basket then bottle it 🙂

I'm very tempted with building another tower using AMD's new line-up of products. I just very recently purchased an MSI VR ready laptop and it's performance is much better than my current desktop. So I'll use this as my excuse to spend more money on computers. 😉
