S8 With Gear VR

I was going to  gift my Dad a VR device since he seems to like virtual reality.

So between the s8 with Gear VR and the Oculus rift which would be a better choice?

  • He just likes to watch 360 VR videos and doesn't like playing games.
  • Also currently I already own a Rift CV1 with touch controllers but for him to be able to use it I assume I have to get him a PC as good as mine.

Also is the resolution going to be better for the s8 with Gear VR in comparison to the s7 with Gear VR?
