Samsung VR Gear - a mobile Oculus Rift????

Hey guys,

Is this thing called Samsung VR real??? Looks like a very sleek design, although I think there should be some minimal distance between the lenses and the display so it should be more bulky. Seems the phone should have very high PPI.

The touchpad on the side seems interesting, how does it work? Does it mean there's some electronics in the headset rather than an optics box?

Does the smartphone have enough computing power and are the sensors/cameras good enough for VR & AR gaming?
Or is the gear only used for media viewing? Any more detailed information on the content supported?

Anyways, if it's cheap, I'm gonna get one 😉

Thanks!

Yeah it will probably be a cool add on. It should be really good for things like virtual tours like we have right now with those 360 photographs on the DK1. They are pretty freakin cool, you really feel like you are standing in a room or region. That shouldn't be too hard for a mobile device to display.

VR videos should work here as well.

There probably wont be many compelling VR games for early phones using this though given the lack of horse power, maybe if they use some half-life graphics.

I agree... Btw could you recommend some good virtual tours apps or 360 photograph taking apps that you've tried?
