I'm noticing an odd issue. Not sure if it's black smearing, since this is a CV1, but I see a trail from black elements on white backgrounds.
A scene to test is the Oculus settings screen by hitting the Oculus button on the remote. The screen where you see your current activity in center and black circle buttons on sides, plus a white grid floor.
As I look around, the buttons leave an after-image that trails behind. When stopping, the after-image catches up to where the button stopped.

Both the Rift and Camera are on USB 3.0
Rift is connected via HDMI to a Nvidia GTX 1080 Founders Edition.

Never contacted Oculus about the red screen, so I've never used that utility they share.
I also see this in software other than the Oculus settings screen. Such as when I use Virtual Desktop with its dark control panel over a white webpage.
In this case, the color smudge can't be an alignment chromatic aberration issue since it's only visible when moving your head. The moment I stop, that highlighted area catches up and aligns itself and goes away, just like the animated gif example.
With the Spud tool, it looked like it mostly fixed the issue, but extreme cases with pure white, like viewing webpages in Virtual Desktop, it can still happen. Luckily, that kind of situation doesn't happen in games much. Sadly, using the spud tool really makes the defect of the right display being brighter more noticeable.
I have this exact same issue (and an open support ticket on this) With spud disabled it's a lot less visible on the blacks but on colored objects its quite the same.
I think I first noticed it after a firmware update on the HMD but not sure anymore. Waited with creating a support ticket because I had a new videocard incoming. Hoping that would resolve the issue, sadly not.
I sent mine to warranty with another problem, the replacement I receive has exactly this problem. 😞 I think it is a very old unit equiped with a couple of crappy OLEDs.
I'm writing back to customer support but I'm very scared of their slowness. I bought it in November 2017 and they sent me as raplacement a rufurbished one assembled in October 2016
