Should there be a mature section for oculus games?

Now perhaps I'm way off the board here but I had a thought. Nate (i believe?) in the oculus connect hour interview with all 5 of them said something along the lines of "We do make sure that nothing really bad or pornographic appears on share" Now I may be getting that completely wrong, but what I thought I heard got me thinking.

Should there be a section dedicated to that? Not just porn in general, but more mature content in that area. I mean, nude women doesn't make it porn always, just like a dungeon doesn't make an rpg. I was just thinking that oculus could really do something here. People are going to post their oculus games on oculus. People are going to play them. Oculus is eventually going to have its own small groups of people making games. And its going to grow. But porn is always more of seen as bad in the video game industry, and honestly I don't think its handled very maturely at all.

Maybe I'm crazy but a mature section of oculus games, featuring, yes, simulations but also games like going through the life and eyes of a hooker trying to raise children or a deep story about medieval princess married off featuring sex but not being the point at all, just a natural part of the story, or honestly just a sex crazed game filled with fun/funny things (depending on person). It, from my point of view, would be interesting more than anything to see mature content openly accepted as a genre that can be handled maturely like anything else.

Your guys thought and opinions? Again, I may be WAY off the deep end, maybe some of this exists or you guys think its already being handled maturely or oculus should never embrace porn and mature content as part of its developing people.

As soon as I saw the title I thought 'someone has porn on the mind' lol 😉

There are mature titles out there and games, well at least some FPS's and Aliens can't be considered non-mature.

If you are talking about titles that have sexually explicit elements or drug use / violence in, I guess it's a tricky one. I would imagine most of the Oculus community are mature (well I am in age but really I don't think I will ever grow up that much ;)). So I don't really see it as a problem and for sure, when VR takes off there will be a huge market, as graphic content does sell, and it would be foolish to ignore the income stream it can generate.

However, as there is a lot of media attention it's probably not the best publicity to glamorize drugs, hookers and violent or sexual content at this time, or have close association with it.

There are independent sites that are working on more adult themed or graphic content, sex or pornographic content as an example has as dedicated large thread on here anyway by independent people.

There is a nude 3D model work in progress listed, which isn't pornographic per say, more artistic in that you can view nude statues or models (which could be considered art and not pornography), I believe there are others in progress but aren't really collected in one central place (the pornography thread is the closest I think there is).

Ah yes, I saw the porn thread but I saw it differently then oculus actually integrating it I suppose? I mean, for now, hell yes. They should stay away from it and anything like that, that does come out I think they should say "we didn't promote it or make it" because that would be A. awful for a young company watched by many to do. B. efficiency. Bigger, other, priorities. But I was wondering if ever they should have an area for it. I mean, I honestly don't know where the hell else people are going to get oculus games at first/for a while from anywhere but oculus. And It just would be nice if someone oculus could just come out and say "sex is as natural as anything else and any other game type, like any other one it has many varieties and can be good or awful, but it has its place." From my perspective, mature content isn't handled maturely, which is my only real interest i suppose and could even be the other title for this topic haha. "will oculus handle mature content maturely" But you know, just my opinion and all that.

I can't see how they can avoid it, mature content, violence and sex sells, I mean just look at the GTA and Saints Row series, or a 100 other titles for that matter. And Sony or Micrsoft don't ban the content, at the end of the day developers are free to use the tools and hardware they have to produce something that there is a profitable market for or demand.

I just can't see them officially endorsing it, but who knows!

I think Virtual sex, violence and mature content will potentially have a huge market, and it can't be ignored. It's just how association with it is handled 🙂

At the end of the day the Rift is a tool given to developers to create with, what content they create is up to them, much like a GFX card is produced to push pixels, and what pixels devs chose to push is up to them 🙂

I doubt Oculus would want this around here. If you Google a bit you will find plenty of sites focusing on this though. Like always when it comes to tech, the adult industry will be cutting edge.

Personally I think Oculus does not have to own all content niches or bring them together in this forum. There will be lots of diversity for VR experiences and dedicated communities emerging who want their own place they can identify with.

It's only a matter of time.
People tend to believe what they want to be true.

I totally understand what you are saying and I agree with you, but I am kind of sure that our society is not there yet. Not at all.

For now, something like a "porn-category" on the future "Oculus-Store" or what ever they end up calling it, is a way to big risk for the start in my opinion. Could make bad headlines.

About games that just have some sex scenes, like in the witcher games for example, I'm not really worried about. Things like this already gets handled really well. But things like
http://oculusrealporn.com/
are maybe never going to show up in there store, or it will take lots of time until that happens. You ask what's the difference? Who knows, people often draw lines which I can't understand at all. 😐

One big challenge about that would be the age verification, lots of parents still want to protect there children from "bad" influence. And when VR is going to get a big thing lots of children are also going to want to use it, even if just children from the age 13+ would use it.

There is an entire sub reddit for no other purpose but to provide a place to share NSFW Oculus content. There are also multiple sites you can find on a google search that are purely for the purpose of VR porn news and title releases. And as of right now, VR porn means Oculus Rift porn.
