What's up, VR gamers. I noticed a lot of you guys want to know if it is worth upgrading to Wifi 6 and 6E, I did a good research and come up with the following chart.

Wifi 5
Wifi 6
Wifi 6E
Traits
  • Multi-User MIMO (MU-MIMO) and 256 QAM modulation
  • Make the router good at multitasking
  • 1024 QAM, send 10 binary
  • Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) and Target Wake Time (TWT).
  • OBSS (spatial frequency reuse) : Allow access point on the same channel to work without interference
  • Beamforming: focus its wireless signal in a specific direction
  • Operating specifically in 6 gigahertz band
  • Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) and Target Wake Time (TWT).
  • OBSS (spatial frequency reuse) : Allow access point on the same channel to work without interference
  • Beamforming: focus its wireless signal in a specific direction

Pros
  • Push the speed up to 1Gbps
  • Real maximum speed of 4 Gbps
  • Allows more devices to share channels efficiently without congestion.
  • Schedules transmissions for specific devices to improve battery life.
  • Real maximum speed of 5 Gbps
  • All wifi 6 features + 6GHz band
Difference compared to the rest
  • Has congestion issues in dense environments.
  • Operates on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies for wider device compatibility.

  • Up to 2-3x faster response times for time-sensitive uses like AR/VR and competitive gaming.

In conclusion, what's my suggestion for VR gamers? It is for gamers who live in a densely populated area, such as New York, surrounded by multiple access points with the same channel, upgrade your Wifi to Wifi 6 and 6E is highly recommend. For gamers who don't live in such areas, an upgrade doesn't seem to be necessary, because Wifi 6 and 6E are a boost to a highly dense spectrum.

Another table? And one that misses out crucial information again? Like many headsets don't support wifi 6e. You really need to ask ChatGPT more precise questions.

Good comparison mate, thanks for that.  I’m still using the same home wifi5 router since I started wireless PCVR +4yrs ago.  It’s a Telstra smart modem2.

It continues to work well because I’m the only 5Ghz user with a dedicated channel (ch36/80mhz in my case), Ethernet wired to my pc and only 2-3m away.  The rest of my household is booted to 2.4 with band steering disabled.  I continue to get great wireless PCVR with both my Q3 and QPro (Q2 now retired).  I do intend to upgrade to a 6e router later next year when prices come down and/or my internet provider offers an upgrade option.  I don’t expect significant performance improvements.  The VD developer told me that in my case I’ll probably only get about 2-4ms lower network latency.  The main reason is that now both my meta headsets support 6Ghz it will open the 5Ghz to other home users.  This might improve my home popularity a bit, lol!

i9 13900K water cooled, RTX4090, Z790 MB w/wifi6e, 32Gb 6400 ram, 2x2TB SSD, 1000W PSU, Win 11, QPro, Q3, w/Link and Air Link, Vive Pro1 with 2x2.0 base stations, Etsy lens mod and Index Controllers

Bard also pointed that out and address Quest3 6e issues properly, too bad the quest browser won't open Bard website for some reasons. Wonder if this is just me.

I see, the good part of it is you can get rest of your home devise an upgrade, not only your Quest, good reason to upgrade then.

GPT doesn't make mistake like that my guy, and also chart like this as well
