Show Oculus you still have faith!

I was hesitant to post this, but I think it needs to be done. There is just so much hate on the Internet right now.  So much hate directed at Oculus, so much hate directed at Palmer Luckey. I want to show them that there are people that still believe.

I'm not going to sit here and say I am absolutely thrilled with the way things have gone. I personally think mistakes have been made. By both sides. As I said in another thread - customer relations go both ways. And as much as we want to hate on Oculus for us not having our Rifts - we've not been very good customers, either.

I don't want this thread to become about what Oculus did or didn't do right or wrong. Nor do I want it to become about what we did or didn't do right or wrong. I only want this thread to be about showing them that we still believe. If you don't, that's fine and you are totally welcome to that opinion. But please respect that this thread is not about that. There are already plenty of threads and posts slamming them. Let this one be about support, please.

I still do believe. I'm scared though. I'm scared that if things continue as they are the whole VR industry and community could be damaged and changed forever. And I so don't want that. VR is very special to me - if you've read my posts you know that. I don't want to see anything hurt it's chances or slow it's growth.

So if like me you still think there is hope - if you still believe in Oculus and Luckey then please show them by posting in this thread. Let's offset some of the hate. Let's show them not everyone has lost faith.

I still believe.

When Oculus says just 1 time "Sorry customers we fucked up but we are going to make you happy again" then I will have trust in this company again, but facts are there and thats all about, seeing is believing.

I know that if my Rift hadn't come yet, I would be pretty angry still. I'd like to think I would have got over it and not been sat there F5ing constantly but also suspect that wouldn't be the case.

Really looking forward to the Touch launch when the real power of VR is going to be unleashed, but I'm also equally happy to wait for it. I appreciate the design decisions Oculus have made with the Rift and Touch so I'm sure I'm bought the right product.

I don't hate Oculus. I have a lot of respect for what they've done. Without Oculus, it's highly doubtful VR would be at the stage it is now.

However, I'm afraid I've lost a great deal of confidence in them as a company. All the delays, lack of communication, half-truths/lies that they've told convinced me that they simply don't deserve my money. If they'd been honest with me from the start, they'd still have my order, but after the way they've acted, any future HMD they manufacture will have to be far and away the best for me to even consider buying from them again.

I can understand that. Fortunately, if we are lucky, the in-home VR market has been jumpstarted and by the time gen 2 comes around we, as consumers can choose the device that best fits our needs/expectations/wallets.

At that point, all players in the market should have learned how to manage logistics and demand or else they deserve to get pushed out of the market as it happens in all kinds of other fields.

Oculus has a year or 2 to come up with an amazing gen 2 device and get their issues sorted.

There is however a catch to this, since Touch is still to come out separately they can show there if they are improving or getting worse and the consumer market will react to that.

If they manage to launch Touch in a better manner than they did with Rift, and do it for a decent price they will have recovered some goodwill with some people at least.

If they botch this too, then I suspect it's game over.

Touch is another reason for me cancelling Rift. I honestly don't believe it will be out this year as anything more than a pre-order pipe dream. Oculus are going to be shipping pre-order Rifts until at least August, not to mention getting further stocks into stores in time for Christmas. How much time are they going to have to work on Touch before then? It's obviously not ready yet, or they'd have sweetened the Rift fiasco pill by letting us pre-order that too.

And, IMO, once Rift is in the stores and being demoed side by side with Vive, it's going to be blown away without Touch to help it compete on a level playing field.

All i can say for myself is that i am patiently waiting for my rift to arrive.
there is no reason at all not to have faith in Oculus.

in forums from consumer products the bad stories and frustrated members, usually have the majority of posts. which is normal, since happy customers use the product and don't care about a forum

One concern might be the slight lack of communication from Oculus, but i guess they have their hands full with other stuff already

I took some time to think about how I feel about Oculus as a company while doing some cleaning around the house. 🙂

Do I still have faith? Someone once said: "Having faith is pretending you know something that you don't know". That's in a religious context of course, but it does apply to this subject.
If you already have your Rift headset, you have more reason to believe in Oculus as a company than if you're still waiting. Being without my CV1 right now, I feel I can't tell you if I still have faith.
I therefore reserve my judgement and wait patiently. I have no reason to complain and it wouldn't achieve anything.

Maybe you think I'm on the fence? Well yes, I am. So far the only direct contact I've had with Oculus is buying a DK2, which went perfectly (ok, I didn't order it on launch day, but quite some time later). Also, that was already a big leap ahead, having experienced the VR of the 90's!
I also had to contact Support just after January 6th when my billing address was being automatically changed by a fault in the system. The response was excellent, The interaction with Oculus staff was pleasant and efficient, and the problem was resolved quickly.

So far, on balance it's been more good than bad. Even the delay in announcing the "component shortage" was but a speedbump, because the April 12th email came when they said it would.

Yes, it's not been a good way to launch, but I believe that when we get over this, it will be forgotten about in the same way as a lot of other products which had a terrible launch. Remember the first iPhone?

Biggest slowdown in growth for VR is "unable to deliver due to out of stock"

I was not one of the first to order but seeing my delivery date being postponed to over somewhere in august which is over 4 months than the biggest  reason why VR could be slowed down is oculus themselfs.

But dont worry, something like this cant and wont kill VR it just grows frustrated consumers

Yep, and i remember phoning and driving around looking for a Playstation 2 - there were none.

Playstation 3 could be had if you paid double the price on Ebay too...

And the list goes on of popular gadgets upon release.
Big PC, all the headsets, now using Quest 3

I have zero faith in Oculus as a company and will not purchase anything in the future.

People don't honestly think VR is going to be as big as iPhones?

Is not that "i want room scale" cause i'm skeptical about it.
I just want the complete product that was promised -.-

All I know is this ... in my Sheldon Cooper like logic

I don't have a product for which I have not yet paid for
I don't have a product that has already been years in the making
I don't have a product I have never used

I shall not waste my time and energy by stressing out over a currently "Virtual product" in my mind.

Id rather devote that time to making people laugh on the forum and maybe lend a hand, or bake cakes!! .. Brownies anyone? (no .. not the special kind)

I am not dismissing people who feel hurt, depressed, angry and disappointed however as everyone is entitled to their opinion and view. I just dont like to see when people vent their anger and frustration at others. Not cool.
