Skyrim and vorpX - What are your settings?

Ok, there is another vorpX related general thread going at the moment, but I didn't want to hijack it since mine is very specific.  I recently tried Skyrim with vorpX and it was truly amazing.  This was using the optimized settings in vorpx, 120 FOV, and the vanilla install.  I had no issues with framerate or black bars, basically it was smooth as butter.

Then I decided to fall down the rabbit hole of modding it.  I have added a few graphical mods [not full ENBs] (character models, better fire, better weather, better night sky, better water) and a few convenience mods (map, SkyUI, lockpicking, new armor/weapons/magic).  Well, after I got all that set up my experience in VR is infinitely worse.  I get the "black bars" at the left and right of the screen when I turn my head and frame jutters when I jump and swing a weapon.

I know I can uninstall all the mods and go back to vanilla, but what I really want to do is find a happy medium.

My question: can someone detail either their list of mods and settings that gives them a smooth experience? Or tell me what settings I need to tweak to get the mods I have working well.

All help is much appreciated!

Disabling shadows completely in the ini:

Skyrimprefs.ini (documents/my games/skyrim):

fShadowDistance=0.0000
fInteriorShadowDistance=0.0000
fShadowLODStartFade=0.0000
bDeferredShadows=0

and lowering object distance (to 9-12) gives the highest fps boost.

Better textures should be fine, but anything that adds objects or changes lighting lowers fps.
No ENB, even the performance ones give a high enough framerate for skyrim.

This is exactly what I was looking for.  Thanks a bunch Nipoc.  As I am at work today my goal is to come home, bring up this thread and go straight to configuring settings.

So you seem to think my mods that I have installed would be OK to leave?  I didn't affect the overall lighting, just fire effects, but I could part with that one if need be.

I also didn't get the "show your body in first person" mod, but I hear that one helps with any motion sickness, which I am not prone to have.

If anyone else still has suggestions I will absoultely take them, as I said, I will do all the troubleshooting once I get home and hopefully have a few different things to try listed here.

I have VORPX but have not tried Skyrim since I got my CV1. Would be good to hear any set up tips as well.

I am really excited about Fall Out 4 coming to VR. At the moment there are not many games ringing my bell.

Vanilla Skyrim...and shadows off /shudder. Awful.

I was going to get VorpX but decided against it. Too expensive for a experience I wouldnt be satisfied with.

I was apprehensive as well to buy vorpX, but seriously glad I did.  I'm not a huge fan of FPS games, although I have a number of them.  Using vorpX it has breathed new life into games like Dishonored, Left 4 Dead 2 and the Borderlands games.  And if I can get the settings correct, I can easily see myself putting 20-40 more hours in another Skyrim play through in VR.
