SkyrimVR - Mods and Tweaks

I think an easy to find thread for tweaking and modding SkyrimVR would be nice for anybody looking to start modding but without maybe the necessary knowledge on how to proceed.

*DISCLAIMER - I did not write or find all of this information, lots of these links were already in the SkyrimVR impressions thread - but I think having a collective thread will be more helpful for everyone and will also separate the guides from the impressions thread allowing people to really focus on their experiences with SkyrimVR in the impressions thread.

I am going to post the guides I followed, as well as my SkyrimVR INIs and my mod list.

I used the following Nexus Mod Manager guide outlined in the thread, but there is something called Vortex which is listed in the guide as well - I am not sure what it is or how it differs or is better the NMM so I am sticking with my NMM install currently.

Enabling Mods:

1. Be sure you've launched the game for the first time, and it runs (then quit).
2. Navigate to: Documents>My Games>Skyrim VR and open SkyrimPrefs.ini
3. Add the heading [Launcher]. right under it add the line: bEnableFileSelection=1 then save.

Looks like this:

Nexus Mod Manager

1. If you haven't already, Download and install Nexus Mod Manager: link
2. Run NMM (administration mode may be required). Cancel the auto
   search ("Stop Searching" button) at the bottom right of the screen.
3. Click the ... button right below where it says Skyrim Special Edition.
4. Select the folder: *(steam installation path)*\Steam\steamapps\common\SkyrimVR\
5. Click the little checkmark above, and ignore the warning that it couldn't find the .exe
6. Install mods
7. Navigate to ...appdata\local\Skyrim Special Edition and copy the plugins.txt
8. Paste the plugins into ...appdata\local\Skyrim VR
9. Close NMM, and get started!

All Done

You can also install them manually by creating a plugins.txt
file in the appdata\local\SkyrimVR. Put your list of mods with an
asterisk in front of them. You'll still need the steps under Enabling Mods. He says there has to be a "Skyrim.esm" at the top of the plugins.txt, but I don't have one on mine and it works fine.

My SkyrimVR.ini was scoped from this link https://pastebin.com/TbGPvLpr - which is for the Vive so do not copy/paste it whole sale if you are on the Rift.

Keep in mind that these files directly affect your graphics settings - so copying whole sale can reset values that you have already set in game.

I'm planning on walking everywhere rather than use a horse or carriage so I'm going to start messing around with the suggestions in that thread at some point.

Have just popped into Whiterun but only to pick up a bounty, I've got way too many bits and pieces to do in Riverwood yet. And when I killed the baddie that the bounty is for I found a treasure map too! 😄

Am 12 hours in this game and I haven't even scratched the surface. If they manage to get SKSE VR sorted out and finish SkyWind and SkyBlivion my life will be fucking OVER!!! 😮 😄 😮

I think @vannagirl needs to move in with me, I'm going to need someone to cook and feed me, plus someone to change my adult nappy when it's full 😛

Thanks for the tip Snowdog - I plan on walking everywhere I can and only using carriages if I am on a quest.

I am currently on a quest that sent me half way across the world to a dungeon - so I used a carriage from Whiterun to Morthal and then walked to the dungeon. Now I have to get back to Riverwood - which would be a very lengthy walk instead I made my way to Solitude to catch a carriage back to Whiterun and then trek to Riverwood.

However I thought I'd make a quick stop into Solitude before I left to sell off some loot, rent a room for a night and catch some rest and then head out the next day. Doing this has netted me another 3 quests just from walking around and talking to people.

I really hope they do get SKSEVR figured out - because I'd love to play Skywind in VR more than any other game. LOL

Well going to spend sometime training the speech recognition software.

If they can get this working 100% with this mod - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/16379
Skyrim will almost be the most immersive game in VR at the moment.

Now hopefully some SKSE gets ported over and we see the community work in actually touch support for things like grabbing levers, opening chests, sheathing and unsheathing swords, etc.

I am going to try the dialog one first - because it seems like an easy uninstall if I don't like it. The only thing with it is that because it is uses a DLL to hook into the game if Bethesda updates the game the author has to rebuild the mod for the new patch.

Fortunately - it is Bethesda so I give them at most 5 patches before they officially stop supporting the game in that regard. LOL
