Are there worthwhile made-for-VR games on Steam that never make it to the Oculus store, or do you mainly shop there for other reasons, such as prices and refund policy?
Steam has a decent number of VR games worth playing that aren't offered here. It also has the advantage of being headset agnostic, so you don't have to jump through hoops with things like Revive if your next headset is something other than an Oculus device. Assuming a game is offered in both places at the same price, I'll typically go with steam for that reason alone. But Oculus does have stuff steam doesn't have just as steam has stuff oculus lacks.
As for specifics, Dead Effect 2 VR is in my opinion the best single player FPS made for VR so far. It is steam only and has been out since last fall.
If I'll be playing mostly multiplayer, I normally get Steam (except Elite which I have all platforms anyway, but use from Home), but for all SP it's Oculus all the way. I also have purchased titles on Steam first, maybe due to sales or first released on Steam, then bought them from Oculus Store as well - just to support Oculus (and because I prefer to use just Home rather than SteamVR and Home). That includes MP games.
I always go for Oculus ahead of Steam because Valve have been doing fuck all with the shitloads of cash I've given them over the last 10 years or so. Not having Half-Life 2 VR available on day one of both of these headsets launching was unforgivable imo.
Yes, they're working on 3 games right now, but we probably won't see them being released anytime soon due to Valve Time.
They're still working on it but no idea when it's going to be ready. These guys are just working on this in their spare time and they're not keen on releasing anything anywhere near half-arsed. I'm hoping for something before the end of the year, but who knows?
You're taking your life in your hands recommending a steam sale on here! If you are willing to risk catching the plague from having steam installed the croteam VR games(Talos Principle, Serious Sams) are free to play this weekend and the bundle of all 5 is on sale for £37.70
