TIL!

Today I learned that Oculus VR has a product fulfillment process that can only be rivaled by a five year old with a traumatic brain injury.

Congratulations to you first-day order folks. You'll likely get your dev kit this month. I suspect it will be awesome. Enjoy the fruits of your Click-Fu. I'm happy for you. (Genuinely!)

The rest of us suckers? August. Maybe.

What is it about VR companies that treat the "whooshing" sound that a missed target date makes as just another sound effect?

And no, I'm not interested in excuses, rationalizations or the hissy fits borne of a million lobotomized fanboys in defense of their precious.

I should know by now that when a VR company states a ship date, the statement should be filed in the same folder as "The check is in the mail!" and "Of course I'll respect you in the morning!"

Technically, they'll meet their ship date assuming nothing happens. That does little to make the people that ordered after the first day feel any better about their $400+ purchase that has no firm delivery date.

I'm not mad, simply disappointed - mostly in myself for buying into the hype of the DK2 and assuming that they weren't going to run in circles with their foot in a bucket when it came time to deliver. (Although from what I've recently learned about the DK1 fulfillment process, they may start out with BOTH feet in buckets...)

Ahhhh. I have the smug satisfaction of having ordered at 9.03 am PDT on the 19th of March 2014.

When my DK2 arrives in two weeks I will think of you. And laugh.

If your saying Oculus is the best company in the world right now and they honour us by allowing us to purchase development kits at cost, then I agree wholeheartedly with you. Well said.

I skipped through your initial post because surely I must be mistaken if there was any criticism aimed at the one company that's re shaping our modern world and fulfilling our wildest dreams.

Wicked!!
Yet, .... amusing

All I hope is that the folk who get their DK2's soon will be kind enough to let the rest of us know how great they are.

The full rundown please?
Many thanks!!

ahh I can understand your disappointment, but since they always gave an "estimate" I am happy it was as good as it is.
be honest, you are more frustrated with yourself because for some reason you did not order right away and so far hoped that would not have an impact.
my brain was in August mode since order - always trying to be a pessimist with everything that is still in the production process and not a stock item. so I am actually very happy that chances are good I get mine in July.

Yeah...because five year old children with brain injuries ship products? This makes no sense.

Thanks! It's almost as if a five year old could've clicked the F5 key to refresh the page that was selling them!

Sucker? Don't be so hard on yourself! you merely missed the time to order early on a product you really wanted.

Um...what? Are you suggesting that other VR companies treat a sound as a regular sound effect? That's a bold statement.

Oh, ok. Are you interested in the hissy fits of cry baby fanboys that whine about things they have no control over? Re-read your post.

There's a folder for one-night stands? Anywho, the ship dates are tentative as was explained over and over again. Did you not get the memo? Are you confusing what folder you put it in?

Yeah, kind of sucks doesn't it? Guess you'll just have to wait, huh? It'll be ok. We'll get through this together!

Yes, you are. you're so angry that it actually puts a smile on my face every time I read your post. It's hilarious. PLEASE keep them coming.

Yes! You bought into the "hype"! Shame on you! Hype should never be bought! And yes, OculusVR is TOTALLY "running in circles" with regards to delivering! This is an important lesson for the kids out there: KEEP ALL BUCKETS AWAY FROM YOUR FEET WHEN MAKING SHIP DATE DELIVERY PROMISES ON OVER HYPED NON-CONSUMER MODEL VR PRODUCTS THAT ARE BEING SHIPPED OUT BY FIVE YEAR OLD CHILDREN WITH BRAIN INJURIES!

...I think you've made your point, F15!

There is only one solution.

If you are not happy about your delivery date (which everyone is sort of guessing at at this point and doesn't really know)...

Then cancel your order to teach Oculus a lesson.

That is the only way you can get your point across since shipping & fulfillment probably doesnt read these boards.

~(casually looks side to side with slightly lidded eyes and wonders if anyone is dumb enough to fall for this subterfuge and cancel their order thus potentially bumping others up to a sooner delivery date)~

It's next to the "binder full of women." 😉

OT: There was never a firm delivery date, you ordered knowing that July was an estimate. They are actually delivering the first batch in July, it's just not as large a batch as hoped for.

For an estimate made four months out before actual manufacturing, I'd say they're doing pretty well.

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

I find the OP very amusing. f15sim, you have a clever way of writing, I think! 🙂

Other than that, I don't really agree. 🙂

When I ordered Oculus stated: "We expect to begin shipping the first batch of DK2s in July" - now it's *beginning* of July and the first batch is leaving China. So what's your point?

This. Oculus really said that they would begin shipping in July. They never gave you a set date on when your dk is going to arrive. They gave an estimation for when other people should be seeing theirs. I'm also glad I just pre-ordered mine day 1 😄
