TIL!

Today I learned that Oculus VR has a product fulfillment process that can only be rivaled by a five year old with a traumatic brain injury.

Congratulations to you first-day order folks. You'll likely get your dev kit this month. I suspect it will be awesome. Enjoy the fruits of your Click-Fu. I'm happy for you. (Genuinely!)

The rest of us suckers? August. Maybe.

What is it about VR companies that treat the "whooshing" sound that a missed target date makes as just another sound effect?

And no, I'm not interested in excuses, rationalizations or the hissy fits borne of a million lobotomized fanboys in defense of their precious.

I should know by now that when a VR company states a ship date, the statement should be filed in the same folder as "The check is in the mail!" and "Of course I'll respect you in the morning!"

Technically, they'll meet their ship date assuming nothing happens. That does little to make the people that ordered after the first day feel any better about their $400+ purchase that has no firm delivery date.

I'm not mad, simply disappointed - mostly in myself for buying into the hype of the DK2 and assuming that they weren't going to run in circles with their foot in a bucket when it came time to deliver. (Although from what I've recently learned about the DK1 fulfillment process, they may start out with BOTH feet in buckets...)

He doesn't, but there are clues to how people write and talk that give it away if they create new accounts that are used to troll with. IP is a great way to know, but you have to hack their site and look at traffic information (public knowledge so it isn't against the law sadly). I am reporting this guy either way... being rude isn't right and trolling is just annoying.

Oculus has been completely transparent with us. Better than most companies I've seen. If you can't understand what they are saying or lacking the understand that this is a DK .. then you... (Errr) need to just listen and watch >.> instead of trying to tell others what to do.

Yea I do believe they should have enough to fulfill all DEVELOPER orders, ones who can actually prove they are developing something and not just a plan that they haven't even worked on. Consumers who bought it to just play with should be last on the list to get it since it's not the CONSUMER model, that comes later. It's kind of funny that you say your not mad yet your entire post is written like an angry person who pre-ordered a product they said is not for consumers but for people developing games/applications for consumers when the final version comes out for people.

One thing about ordering on the day and that is the fact that it took no special skills to get in. You go to the page when it came up, click order, put in your info, and you have day 1 pre-order. I ordered in April after I decided to start working on a project and currently learning to program in Unity so don't even expect or need it till august when I learn the ins and outs of the SDK kit. I believe the correct saying for this is "Would you like some cheese with your whine?"

Agreed. They have been very transparent even as they have gone a bit dark after the Facebook thing. And again, selling a top notch (best available anywhere near this price) VR headset at cost is amazing - DK or not.

I would so much rather get my DK as it came available and take whatever hit comes from when I ordered than wait months after I would have gotten it so everyone would get theirs at the same time. I don't understand that thinking.

I also don't understand the people saying OVR mismanaged the DK manufacture when from placing a preorder to getting it in hand is going to be about 4 months for the first batch people - all while lining up parts, facilities, and logistics to build 65,000 or so of them.

It's just people being publicly boneheads and thankfully it's quieting down after they got hit with backlash.

I'm really glad I got the chance to get in on this and thank the OVR folks for their efforts. Different people could have taken this a very different and much more closed direction. How many people have a Morpheus to work with right now? How many will have them even in two months? Not to slam Sony but it's the direction this could have gone.

By the reaction I got, you'd think I was telling hipster douchebag jokes in the middle of an Apple store, while simultaneously skinning infants at the Genius Bar with a bowie knife.

It's been enlightening to say the least.

Regardless of the merit (or lack thereof) of my complaint, the reaction to it has been about as rational as thinking you'd be successful in chopping down a tree with a bag of Doritos. You might want to think about that. (Some may, but most will just reload their perjorative cannons and continue to blast away.)

And you DARE tell someone else they're on a high horse? Are you serious? I love how you were a complete and total infant in your beginning post, and after you got decimated for it, tried to back peddle. Accept it. Accept that you're no different than any of the whining fanboys that beg for cake, and when they get it, beg for cream.

You should have ordered from AntVR.

I am sure they will deliver on time and on spec.

Eh, I am defiantly not so sure about that one as the tech for that small hasn't really even come out yet. I mean good luck to them but I smell a scam or something coming out in 2016 or 2017.
